Please see www.storage.ibm.com/fast500/supserver.htm for supported switches and firmware levels. * When a host operating system attaches to the FAStT500 using the RDAC driver, then all hosts attached to the FAStT500 must use the RDAC driver. Refer to the table below as to which drivers are available for the various supported operating systems. Since AIX runs with an RDAC failover driver only, all other platforms attached to the same FAStT500 (i.e. other SUN, NT or W2000) need to run with RDAC as well. To support RDAC, when installing FAStT500 into AIX environments run the "avtdisable.sc" script to disable AVT (Automatic Volume Transfer). This script can be found in the AIX directory on the CD shipped with the product. When RDAC is used, the failback method is manual, not automatic. So after an automatic failover, the customer must manually redistribute LUNs back to the preferred path. * AVT (Automatic Volume Transfer) is also known as "ADT" (Automatic Disk Transfer). OS Drivers Available -------------- ------------------- Windows NT4.0 AVT & RDAC Windows 2000 RDAC Only Novell NetWare AVT Only Linux - RedHat AVT Only AIX RDAC Only Solaris AVT & RDAC HP-UX AVT Only * Whenever the NVSRAM code on the FAStT500 is updated, AVT / ADT is automatically enabled and must be disabled with the avtdisable script. * It is important to set the queue depth to a correct size for AIX hosts. Having too large of a queue depth can result in lost filesystems and host panics. Please reference the IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.10 for the FAStT500 in the UNIX and AIX Environments Installation and Support Guide for details. * The Storage Manager GUI (client) on AIX is only supported with Out of Band management. In Band Storage Manager support (via FC interface) will not be available at this time on AIX. So to manage/configure the FAStT, the native GUI must be used and there must be a LAN attachment between the FAStT and the AIX platform. If In Band management is needed, then there must be a different host on the SAN, such as W2K or NT. * Each AIX Platform (server) will support 1 FAStT Partition, with each AIX host containing a minimum and maximum of 2 Host Bus Adapters (6227 or 6228). The customer can attach up to 8 AIX hosts per FAStT500. Multiple FAStT500 systems may be attached to a single AIX server. * The UTM LUN (or Access LUN) is not supported on AIX. The Access LUN must be disabled on AIX Partitions during the installation process or unpredictable results will occur during failover. The UTM (or Access LUN) is only needed for In-band Management of the FAStT500, which is currently not supported on AIX. * FAStT500 Storage Servers with Storage Manager 7.10 are limited to a maximum of 100 physical disk drives, 50 per drive loop, for high availability applications. Today Storage Manager 7.10 is required for AIX and UNIX attachment to FAStT500. 220 Drives can be attached to systems running FAStT Storage Manager 8.0 and associated firmware, currently supported for Intel platforms only. * FC Boot Support is not available on AIX. * When multiple storage products (tape and disk)are attached to the same host server, it is highly recommended that each storage connects to different host adapters with proper zoning through the switch. * On Sun Solaris platforms, the FAStT Storage Manager client (GUI) is supported on Solaris 8.0. It is recommended that in Sun Solaris 2.6 and 2.7 OS levels, that the GUI not be used due to a problem with potential memory leaks. * On HP Systems, when using the FAStT Storage Manager client (V7.10) the security password should not be used due to the following: If the password is used and then a log out is done, the client will not allow re-entry a second time. A work around is to reinstall the FAStT Storage Manager client if this occurs. If a security password is required for your environment, it is recommended that the FAStT Storage Manager client (V7.10) be used on a different platform, such as NT or Windows 2000. We are working toward a swift resolution. * On HP Systems, the FAStT Storage Manager client (V7.10) may not show accurate representation of the state of the controller on the GUI during some failure conditions. For example, if a connection between the HP host and the FAStT500 is broken during operation (such as a cable pulled during I/O), the GUI may show the controller as unresponsive instead of in a passive state. The actual operation of the system will not be affected. * On Sun Systems, detaching existing storage and attaching new storage devices without re-installing the FAStT Storage Manager host software (SM7client,SM7agent and RDAC for Solaris), may result in inconsistencies in the number of LUNs seen by the Sun host. If this occurs, IBM support should be contacted. * On Sun Systems , do not use a double space or a question mark character when assigning a name to the storage. If these characters are used, then the Sun System will not recognize the storage. * Requirements when attaching FAStT500 to HP-UX and/or Solaris Clustered environments: Platform OS Level, Cluster Software HBAs Supported Device Driver Level Multi-pathing Type Platform: SUN OS Level, Cluster Software: Solaris 8 , Veritas VolumeManager/DMP, Veritas Cluster Server 1.3 for Solaris 8.
