The EKM works with IBM encryption-enabled tape drives in generating, protecting, storing & maintaining encryption keys that are used to encrypt information being written to and decrypt information being read from tape media. EKM is a part of the IBM Java run time environment & it uses IBM Java security components for the cryptographic capabilities used. It is supported on z/OS, i5/OS, AIX, Linux, HP-UX, Sun Solaris & Windows. The EKM is licensed under the IBM License Agreement for Machine Code (LIC.pdf). Your use of this code indicates your acceptance of that agreement. ENCRYPTION KEY MANAGER In order to enable the use of new EKM versions as quickly as possible for early adopters and allow customers to benefit from the latest fixes, the EKM versions distributed under this directory are provided as 'engineering level' versions. They have been successfully 'unit' tested for functionality with representative IBM tape drives, but have not undergone full system level testing involving the full complement of supported tape devices, OSes, HBAs, complex Storage Area Networks (SANs), error injection and heavily loaded computer environments. Due to the limited scope of testing, these versions are distributed "AS IS", but should be suitable for all but the most stringent, complex or mission critical applications where fully tested EKM versions should be used. Some of these versions are currently being fully system tested or will be fully system tested in the near future. When system testing is complete, the EKM versions will be formally released and moved to the generally supported directory (Latest). However, many of the EKM versions under this directory will remain engineering level versions, but fixes will be accumulated into a future EKM release version. A field incident can be opened with IBM support. IBM will work on a 'best as can do' basis to resolve operational issues with the engineering level versions.
