The SAN Explorer is a Windows NT utility that allows viewing all storage devices
attached to the host system. It displays information about the host bus
adapters, drivers and devices. It also offers special features to support
the SAN Gateway and SAN Router, plus the ability to update firmware (microcode)
for attached devices.

Also included is an NT service that will allow automatic registration of hosts with the
SAN Gateway Virtual Private SAN(tm) feature. To enable this service, check the "Pathlight
VPS Registry Service" box when you select the components to install.

Please remove the previous version. This product installs in a different directory to 
avoid conflict with the SAN Director.

NOTE
====
Before updating VPSREG, you should manually stop the service using the Services control
panel applet. Then, using regedit, delete the keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iacreg and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpsreg

You can then install the new version.


INSTALLATION
============

 Install the SAN Explorer by double-clicking on SANEXP.EXE, then
 follow the on-screen prompts.


Pathlight VPS Registry Service
==============================

 The registry service runs as a native Windows NT service, that is, it runs even when
 no one is logged on to the system and it is always in the background.

 There is one configurable parameter that controls the time interval between
 reregistration attempts. To adjust this interval, edit the registry and navigate to
 the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpsreg\Parameters key. Make sure
 a DWORD value exists called "Interval" and set to the number of minutes between
 registrations (default is 15, range is 1-255).

 To manually start the service, type the command (at a command prompt or the Start, Run
 menu option):

 NET START vpsreg

 or use the Services Control Panel Applet.

 To remove the service, stop it first using the Control Panel applet or use the command

 NET STOP vpsreg

 Then CD to the directory it was installed in:

 CD "c:\Program Files\Pathlight Technology" (or wherever you installed this software)

 Finally

 vpsreg -u

 It will also be removed by using the Uninstall procedure for the SAN Explorer.

RELEASE NOTES
=============
 This is the latest released version of the SAN Explorer.

 Dependencies:
 Firmware on the SAN Gateway must be at or above 3.20 for some features to
 function. To retrieve the entire LUN mapping database, version 3.21 or later
 is required for large configurations (>30 devices).

Release Notes for Version 2.04

Version 2.04 only changes the product identification in various dialog boxes and help topics
to be consistent and call the product "SAN Explorer".

Release Notes for Version 2.03 and VPS Registration Service 1.08
----------------------------------------------------------------
a) Registration is not performed on downstream cascaded gateways. The previous version would overwrite the
upstream gateway's registration information.

b) Windows 2000 is now displayed as that, instead of NT 5.0

c) Service Pack information for Windows 2000 has been reformated.

d) It is now possible to use a different LUN (other than 0), although this is not recommended.
The LUN may be set by adding the vpsreg\Parameters\LUN value (DWORD) and setting it to the desired
LUN number.
