What's in this README

This README file contains information about known problems with the product. Updates to this README file will be posted to the WebSphere Commerce Library page. You can also check the Technotes database on WebSphere Commerce Support page for reported problems and other product support information.

Documentation

The WebSphere Commerce Library page contains any updates that have been made to the online help and installation guide. Also available is additional product information not shipped on the CD.

Note that the online help contains a significant number of important updates.

Installation

  1. The trace.txt file and message.txt files, generated during instance creation, are encoded using UTF-8 by default. The encoding of these files, as well as all other Loader output messages, can be customized. To change the default coding, the configuration file must be changed by doing the following:

    1. Open the WCALoggerConfig.xml residing in Commerce_Install/xml/loader
    2. For each loader component, replace <handler type="file"> with <handler type="file" encoding=""> where the encoding attribute value depends on the locale setting.
  2. The installation error messages for the required operating system fixes are incorrect. Refer to the IBM WebSphere Commerce Installation Guide for UNIX Systems, Version 5.5 for the required operating system fixes.
  3. The following commands will not work: wcs_encrypt.sh, wcs_password.sh and wcs_pmpassword.sh.
    You will receive the following error message:
    CLASSPATH=/opt/WebSphere/AppServer/java/jre/lib/ext/ibmjcefw.jar:/opt/WebSphere/AppServer/java/jre/lib/ext/ibmjceprovider.jar
    :/opt/WebSphere/AppServer/java/jre/lib/ext/local_policy.jar:/opt/WebSphere/AppServer/java/jre/lib/ext/US_export_policy.jar
    :/opt/WebSphere/CommerceServer55/wc.ear/Enablement-BaseComponentsLogic.jar: is not an identifier

    This problem will be fixed in WC 5.5 fix pack 1. Until this fix pack is released, follow this workaround. Open the previously mentioned scripts and make the following change:
        Change:
        export CLASSPATH=$JCE_CP
        To:
        CLASSPATH=$JCE_CP
        export CLASSPATH

  4. Ensure that you run any of the following commands in the Korn shell or any other UNIX shell that supports the $PWD environment variable. Attempts to run any of the following commands in the Bourne shell will fail:

Fix installation

The fixes listed in the following sections require the most recent WebSphere Application Server update installer. The update installer can be obtained from the WebSphere Application Server support Web site:

www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/was/support/

You can find the update installer quickly by searching for the following term:

UpdateInstaller for WebSphere Application Server 5.0

Note: Do not use the update installer provided on WebSphere Commerce CD 2 to install the fixes listed in the following sections. Using the provided installer will cause the installation of the fixes to fail.
