Previously, installation of an ISMP packaged product on AIX required that the installing user was root. This property allows the product developer to choose to waive that requirement, allowing all users to install and not just the root user.

Specifying "True" for this property indicates that the customer installing your product will be allowed to initiate an installation as a non-root user.

If a non-root user installs your product, the native Software Vital Product Database (SWVPD) will not be updated with information for your product. Native SWVPD support requires root access. In addition, there can be no automatic requisite checking for non-ISMP packaged requisites (in other words, your product cannot have an installp fileset name in any of its required lists), because this also requires root access.

Since there is no integration with the native SWVPD, the AIX command used to list installed software, lslpp, will not display information about your product, and the end-user will not be able to use the AIX system management tools like SMITTY and Web-Based System Manager to uninstall or list information about your product.

It is also important to note that although you may allow non-root installations by setting this property, if a root user installs your product, integration with the native SWVPD will occur.

If you specify "False" for this property, installation of your product by a non-root user will not be allowed.
