Opening an existing trace file

To open a previously saved trace file, start OLT and follow these steps:

  1. Select File > Open OLT File. A dialog box opens.
  2. Select the file format from the File Filter pulldown. The trace file can be stored as XML (default) or the Object Level Trace EDB format.
  3. Select an event file name from the list.
  4. Click OK. The selected OLT file opens in the viewer.

Important: OLT looks for file on the machine where the OLT server is running. This may be a different machine than the machine running the OLT viewer.

OLT files can be in any directory on the workstation where the OLT server is running. If you do not specify a fully qualified path for the file, OLT will look in the default directory for storing file.

The default directory for storing trace files is the directory defined by the %DER_DRIVER_PATH%\temp environment variable on Windows NT/2000, or /tmp on AIX.

To change the default directory, follow these steps:

  1. Select File > Preferences. A settings window opens.
  2. From the tree view, select OLT.
  3. Enter a new path in the OLT Read/Save file path field.
  4. Click OK. This change takes effect the next time you start OLT.

Note: Once you have opened a trace file in the OLT viewer, you cannot toggle back to online mode in order to trace a running application. You must first close OLT and restart.
