Installing IBM WebSphere Application Server on HP-UX

This article guides you to information especially for users of IBM WebSphere Application Server for HP-UX.

Supported operating system versions

See the WebSphere Application Server Supported Hardware, Software, and APIs Web site at www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/doc/latest/prereq.html for the specific operating system versions supported by this version of IBM WebSphere Application Server.

No support for Secure Sockets Layer enabled plug-in when using Apache Web Server

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) enabled plug-in is not supported on HP-UX when using the Apache Web Server.

Installation

Select installation and configuration steps according to the Web server and database you plan to use. The Quick installation option installs a supported Web server and database for you.

Custom installation:

iPlanet Web Server  

On some installations of iPlanet Web server on an HP-UX machine, it is necessary to manually set the SHLIB_PATH variable to /usr/lib before starting the iPlanet Web server with a plug-in configured for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). For example, in the korn shell, issue the following command before invoking the command export SHLIB_PATH=/usr/lib to start the iPlanet Web server.

You can install WebSphere Application Server by using either the Custom Installation option or the Typical Installation option. The Custom Installation option allows you to choose among various supported Web servers and databases and configure WebSphere Application Server specifically for those choices. The Typical Installation option automatically installs and configures the IBM HTTP Server and WebSphere Application Server for you. (You will need to install a database separately before you install WebSphere Application server by using this option, however.)
