Searching

In order to use the search facilities of the information center you must be using an information center that has been installed on your machine or on a server. You cannot performs searches if you are using the information center directly from the CD-ROM. In order to perform searches when using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you must allow nonencrypted form data to be submitted by going to Tools - Internet Options - Security - Custom Level and enabling Submit nonencrypted form data.

You can search either the whole library of TPFDF information or you can search various predefined subsets of the information if you know where the topic you are looking for is covered. With the exception of the Installation and Help subsets, the subsets that you can search are based on those shown in the list of books in the TPFDF library. The subsets are:

At the bottom of the masthead there is a search bar. This search bar is used for making simple searches of the information center. Simple searches do not allow more than one index to be searched. Nor can Boolean expressions be used.

The search bar can also be used to go directly to certain reference information using a direct index lookup. The information that can be looked up in this way is

These indexes are identified in the search bar drop-down by the suffix "(lookup)".

Selecting  Searches  at the right of the tab bar in the masthead displays the list of saved search results, and the navigation panel also contains a link Start a new search. Selecting this link displays a panel that allows you to enter searches involving Boolean expressions and also allows you to search more than one index at a time.

When the results of a search are displayed it is possible to save the results so that they can be retrieved later.

If you are using the information center directly from the CD-ROM rather than installing on your machine or on a LAN, searching is not possible but index lookup is still possible.
