Use this command to do the following:
- Start or stop the Internet Protocol (IP) trace for one or more IP routers
- Start or stop the writing of the IP trace data to tape
- Start or stop the tracing of Routing Information Protocol (RIP) messages
- Change the amount of data in each message that will be traced.
Requirements and Restrictions
- You can enter this command only in 1052 state or higher.
- You can enter this command only from the basic subsystem (BSS).
Format
- START
- starts the IP trace for the specified resources.
- STOP
- stops the IP trace for the specified resources.
- ALL
- starts or stops the IP trace for all IP routers.
- IP-ipaddr
- starts or stops the IP trace for all IP routers that are associated with
the specified local IP address, where ipaddr is the numeric local IP
address.
- SDA-sda
- starts or stops the IP trace for a specific IP router, where sda
is the symbolic device address of the IP router.
- TAPE
- starts or stops writing the IP trace data to tape.
- SIZE-size
- changes the amount of data in each message that is traced, where
size is the amount of data in each message to trace. The value
can be from 8 to 3840 bytes.
- NORIP
- specifies that Routing Information Protocol (RIP) messages are not placed
in the trace table.
- RIP
- specifies that RIP messages are placed in the trace table.

The following example activates the IP trace for an IP router.
