Diagnosing Syslog Daemon Configuration Problems

The syslog daemon supports a debug mode, which is selected using the -d argument with the XPARM parameter of the ZINET ADD command. In this debug mode, the syslog daemon writes a large number of trace messages to the standard output (stdout) stream. You can use these messages to diagnose problems in the syslog daemon configuration or to collect documentation when reporting a syslog daemon problem to IBM support.
