3.0 Fixes contained in this release

3.1 Core fixes

This fix pack resolves these problems:

4.0 Known limitations, problems, and workarounds

4.1 Citrix Web Interface support for test recording

You can now record a Citrix session from the Citrix Web Interface to use the load balancing feature provided by this connection method. You do this by recording an HTTP performance test that contains session information recorded with the Web interface, and then by recording a Citrix performace test that uses this information. When you have finished recording the session, the wizard generates a Citrix performance test.

An HTTP performance test provides the session information to connect to a Citrix farm for a user and an application. The same HTTP performance test can be re-used to record different Citrix performance tests.

Citrix performance tests recorded with this method can only be run within a schedule. After recording, you must set up a schedule that runs the HTTP test and then the Citrix test.

To record a Citrix test from the Citrix Web Interface:

  1. First, record an HTTP performance test. Click File > New > Test from Recording, and then select HTTP Recording and click Next.
  2. On the Select Location for Test Suite page, select a project. In Test file name, type a name for the HTTP performance test, and then click Finish.
  3. In the Web browser, type the URL of the Citrix Web Interface server.
  4. On the Citrix Web Interface page, enter your user name, password, and domain to open a session. The Citrix Web Interface displays the list of applications published on a server and available to the user.
  5. Click on the application that you want to test.
  6. Close the application and the Web browser. This stops the recording and generates a new HTTP performance test that ends with a custom code test element named StoreICA.
  7. Now, record the Citrix performance test. Click File > New > Test from Recording, and then select Citrix Recording and click Next.
  8. On the Select Location for Test Suite page, select a project. In Test file name, type a name for the Citrix performance test, and then click Next.
  9. On the Citrix Connection Settings page, select Through a Web interface and in Connection scenario, click Browse and select the HTTP performance test that contains the Citrix Web Interface session.
  10. Click Finish to start the recording immediately or click Next to specify other recording options, and then click Finish.
  11. In the Citrix Presentation Server client, perform the tasks that you want to test.
  12. When you have completed the sequence of actions to be tested, close the session cleanly and stop the recorder by closing the Citrix Presentation Server client. A progress window opens while the test is generated. On completion, the Recorder Control view displays the message Test generation completed, the Test Navigator lists your test, and the test opens in the test editor.

To run a Citrix Web Interface test, you must create a new schedule, add the HTTP performance test, and then add the Citrix test performance test.

4.2 No data recorded if Firefox is already running

If you are using Firefox to record an HTTP test, ensure that there are no Firefox browser processes, even minimized ones, running when you start to record. The HTTP Recorder will automatically open one instance of the Firefox browser to allow you to begin recording the test.

If you attempt to record a test with an instance of Firefox already running, you will immediately receive a message that there is no data to record, and your test will be "empty."

4.3 Supported versions of IBM Tivoli Monitoring Agents

The supported versions of IBM Tivoli Monitoring Agents are:

Agent Version
Linux 6.1.0
OS/390 3.1.0
SNMP MIB2 6.0.0
WebSphere Application Server MQ 3.6.0
Windows 6.1.0
Oracle 6.1.0
Citrix 1.0.0
DB2 6.1.0
UNIX 2.0.0
WebSphere Application Server
1.3.0
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for WebSphere 6.0.0

4.4 Application Server Instrumenter writes to root-owned directories on Linux

On Linux, the Application Server Instrumenter requires write access to several directories owned by the root user. If you attempt to run the Application Server Instrumenter from a user account that does not have access to these directories, the program will not start. To work around this, on Linux run the Application Server Instrumenter as root.

4.5 Instrumenter fails when RPT and WebSphere are installed on different partitions

Instrumenting a WebSphere Application Server will fail if Rational Performance Tester and WebSphere Application Server are installed on different hard drives or partitions. Even though instrumentation fails, the Application Server Instrumenter will report success.

For example, if Rational Performance Tester is installed on C: and WebSphere Application Server is installed on D:, the instrumentation scripts will not instrument the WebSphere Application Server, but they will report that the server was instrumented successfully. This means that the response time breakdown feature will be unavailable.

There is no workaround currently, other than uninstalling Rational Performance Tester and reinstalling it on the same drive as WebSphere Application Server.

4.6 "Unable to find control agent" on Linux

If you attempt to record a performance test on Linux as a non-root user, the error message "Unable to find control agent" displays. The workaround is to log in as root to record performance tests on Linux.

4.7 Vista tolerance in Rational Performance Tester 7.0.0.2

Rational Performance Tester requires administrative privileges to run. This is true whether you install the product into a virtualized directory (such as "Program Files") or into a directory that is not virtualized. To run the application as administrator, right-click the application and choose "Run as administrator."

In addition, Rational Agent Controller needs to run either as a service or from a command prompt that was launched with Administrator authority (right-click and choose "Run as administrator"). To record Citrix tests, you must run the Rational Agent Controller from a command prompt launched as administrator. The Rational Agent Controller service is not allowed to create UI on the desktop, which is a requirement for Citrix testing.

Unsupported Features

The response time breakdown feature is not supported on Vista.

SAP is not supported on Vista.

Siebel data correlation is not supported on Vista.

4.8 Enabling resource monitoring on Vista

To enable the resource monitoring feature on Vista, you must start the Remote Registry service, disable the remote User Account Control, and configure the firewall.

Start the Remote Registry service
The Remote Registry service is disabled by default on Vista. This service must be running in order for to collect resource monitoring data. To enable the Remote Registry service:

  1. Open the Administrative Tools control panel
  2. Open Services
  3. Click Start on the Remote Registry service entry
  4. Optionally, to launch the Remote Registry service automatically every time Vista starts, do the following: right-click the Remote Registry service and select Properties. Set the Startup type to Automatic.

Disable the remote UAC
When users remotely authenticate, the UAC (User Account Control) will grant only the user standard privileges, even if the supplied credentials are in the Administrators group. To work around this, modify the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy registry key:

  1. Open the Registry Editor (Start > Run, then type "regedit")
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  3. Right-click the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy key and select Modify. Change the value to 1.
If the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy key does not exist, right-click the right window and select "New > DWord". Enter the name "LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy" and set its value to 1.
NOTE: To reset these remote authentication settings to their original state, set this key to 0.
  4. Restart the computer

Configure the firewall
The Vista firewall will block remote administrative requests by default. To enable this support, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Windows Firewall control panel
  2. Click Change settings
  3. Click the Exceptions tab
  4. Select the Remote Administration option
  5. Restart the computer

4.9 Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery do not support the high resolution setting on Windows Vista operating system

The Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery do not support the new high resolution display setting "Larger scale(120DPI)- make text more readable" on Windows Vista operating system. The gallery content does not display if this option is set.

This setting enables through the following steps:

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click Ease of Access Center > Make Computer easier to see > Change the size of text and icon.
  3. Select Larger scale(120DPI)- make text more readable.
  4. Click Save settings.

If you changed to the new high resolution display option, change to a lower resolution setting (for example, the default 90 DPI setting).

4.10 Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery require Mozilla Firefox as the supported Web browser on Japanese Windows Vista operating system

On the Japanese version of the Windows Vista operating system, the Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery require Mozilla Firefox as the Web browser preference; the gallery content does not display on other Web browsers. To work around this problem, install Mozilla Firefox, and then set the Web Browser preference (click Window > Preferences > General > Web Browser) to Mozilla Firefox.
