1.0 About this release

To view the latest version of this file, see the readme file at http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/v7/rcl/7001/docs/readme/readme.html.

1.1 New in this release

IBM® Rational® License Server, Version 7.0.0.1 has been enhanced to extend Floating license support for IBM Rational Software Development Platform products built on the Eclipse open-source framework. This family of products, including IBM Rational Application Developer, IBM Rational Software Architect, and other related version 7.0 products and above, includes support for a subset of Rational Common Licensing (powered by FLEXlm software) that enables administrators to manage and enforce licensing across the enterprise.

Floating license enforcement is an optional licensing feature for Rational Software Delivery Platform tools. Floating license enforcement enables administrators to prevent the enterprise from becoming out of compliance with purchased license agreements.

You can also choose to purchase an Authorized User license and download the product activation kit, which contains a permanent license key. The permanent license key is not provided or managed through Rational Common Licensing. At any time, you can switch between implementation of an activation kit or Floating license support using the IBM product license and installation utility, IBM Installation Manager for the Rational Software Development Platform.

Note: The Rational License Server v7.0.0.1 software for Linux and UNIX systems is included in this release.  The Microsoft® Windows® version of the server software, supporting floating license keys for Raitonal Software Development Platform products built on the Eclipse framework, will be available in a future release.

1.2 Product fix history

This release contains fixes for the following issue in Rational License Server Version 7.0.

License key files for PurifyPlus(TM) do not work without using license usage mapper

Evaluation license keys for IBM Rational PurifyPlus software did not work in the Rational License Server Version 7.0 software without using the license usage mapper to configure licensing for the product. After starting Rational Purify®, users received a message: "failed to check out a license key."

This issue has been fixed in this release.

2.0 Installation information

2.1 Before enabling Floating license enforcement for SDP tools

The Rational Software Development Platform (SDP) floating license keys require an updated version of the Rational License Server: version 7.0.0.1. The v7.0.0.0 and earlier versions of the server will not serve the SDP product version 7.0 keys because they are in a slightly different format than traditional Rational license keys. If you serve licenses for other IBM Rational products, such as IBM Rational Rose® and Team Unifying Platform products, you can upgrade your existing Rational License Server software to v7.0.0.1. The latest version of the Rational License Server software serves license keys for all products in Rational Common Licensing (powered by FLEXlm software).

Note: The Rational License Server, Version 7.0.0.1 for Linux(TM) and UNIX® systems is available in the version 7.0.0.1 release.  The Windows version of the 7.0.0.1 server software will be available with the Version 7.0.1 release.
