1.0 About this release

This fix pack contains new features, enhancements, and fixes to the version 7.0 release of IBM^® Rational^® Business Developer Extension.

See the release notes for version 7.0 of this product to learn about its new features and any limitations or problems known at the time of its release. 1.1 New in this release

This release of Rational Business Developer Extension contains the following new features and enhancements:

• Simple Text Reporting

  There is now integrated support for JasperReports. Rational SDP V7 also includes BIRT as a reporting tool. The two reporting engines can produce reports in complex formats like HTML and PDF. However, when a more simple report is preferred, JasperReports or BIRT may not be the best solution. In this fix pack, EGL adds support for simple text reports. Refer to the following article on developerWorks for information on creating text reports in EGL: Simple Text Reporting for EGL Version 7.

• Asynhronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) Support

  This version includes AJAX support for creating web applications. The following AJAX technologies can be incorporated into EGL applications:

  • AJAX requests can be triggered by almost any client event (such as on selection, on focus, on mouse click) in addition to the traditional button or link controls (server events).
  • The request may contain parameters which could either be derived from a subset or all the fields within a page. Similarly, the response from the server could contain only a subset or the entirety of the page to be updated.
  • It is a faster communication and less data is transmitted across the wire.

  Page Designer provides tooling to allow the user to create AJAX controls on new or existing Java Server Pages (JSPs). To create an AJAX component on a page complete the following:

  1. Define an area on the page using a panel component that will be refreshed with an AJAX request.
  2. Define an AJAX request used to cause the refresh of the panel component on the page. The request could be ajaxRefreshRequest, ajaxSubmitRequest, or ajaxExternalRequest.
  3. Define query parameters for the Ajax request if required.
  4. Identify an input or output control on the page which can be used to trigger a client event, such as onClick, onBlur, or onSelection. To add a client event to a control, a child can be defined for the control via the Quick Edit view.

  The EGL JSF handler is enabled for AJAX interaction in the following ways:

  • A new J2EELib.getQueryParameter function is introduced which can be used to retrieve query parameters from an AJAX or non-AJAX request.
  • A JSF handler “onPrerenderFunction” can be used to detect an AJAX request by inspecting the query parameters passed in the AJAX request and to setup the required data for page refresh.

• GOTO Statement

  The GOTO statement is now supported. The syntax and usage for GOTO is the same as in EGL version 6. The GOTO statement is used primarily by the I4GL Conversion tool for migrating Informix 4GL applications to EGL.

• Item redefinitions

  This enhancement allows an item from a fixed record to redefine another item from the same record, provided both are at the same level and both have the same parent. The redefining item's length must not be greater than the redefined lenght of the item.

• Array indexing in JSP handlers

  The first item in an EGL array has an index of 1. This is different for Java-based arrays, which use 0 as the index for the first item. In this service enhancement, EGL will handled Java-based arrays using 0 as the index. This change affects existing code when migrating from Version 6.

  • If you install Rational Business Developer Extension, Verion 7.0, you will need to manually change any logic that accomandates for the different index expection between EGL-based and Java-based arrays.
  • If you install the Rational Business Developer Extension Version 7.0.0.3, no changes to the code logic is needed. The difference between index handling is done within the Rational Business Developer Extension processing.
  • Any inputRowSelect controls created in Version 7.0.0.3 will be 1-based, existing inputRowSelect controls created in V70 will stay 0-based. If you use Page Designer to re-bind to the control, it will then be 1-based and the logic should be manually updated.

• ValidValues property enhancements for JSF handlers

  Behavior when using drag and drop for variables using the validValues property to create a page item has changed:

  • If the validValues property does not specify a range of values, a JSF selectOne control by is produced by default.
  • If the validValues property specifies range of values, a JSF inputText control is produced by default.

2.0 Installation information

This section describes the installation requirements and specific installation instructions for this fix pack.

2.1 Hardware requirements

There are no additional processor or memory requirements for installing this fix pack.

2.2 Software requirements

This section describes the additional software requirements for installing Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3. One of the following must already be installed before installing Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3:

• Rational Application Developer, Version 7.0.0.3
• Rational Software Architect, Version 7.0.0.3
• WebSphere Developer for System z, Version 7.0.1
• WebSphere Development Studio Client for System i, Version 7.0.0.2

2.3 Other requirements

Internet access is usually required because, by default, the update is located and installed by Installation Manager directly from the IBM update repository for Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.

Important: When Rational Business Developer Extension is installed, the location of its update repository is automatically embedded in Installation Manager. For Installation Manager to search the default update repository, the preference Search the linked repositories during installation and updates on the Repositories preference page must be selected. This preference is selected by default.

To install the fix pack from a different repository location (for example, if the fix pack is available on a shared drive or HTTP or HTTPS server), you must add the repository location in Installation Manager. To add a repository location:

1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
2. On the Start page of Installation Manager, click File > Preferences, and then click Repositories. The Repositories page opens.
3. On the Repositories page, click Add Repository.
4. In the Add repository window, enter the URL of the repository location or browse to it and enter a file path, and then click OK.
5. Click OK to close the Preference page.

2.4 Installation instructions

The following are two options for installing this update:

• If IBM Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0 is already installed on your system, then you can install this update by using the Update Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. For general instructions on installing an update, refer to the section "Updating Rational Business Developer Extension" in the Installation Guide. For detailed instructions, see section 2.4.1 Installing Rational Business Developer Extension Version 7.0.0.3 as an update.
• If you are installing IBM Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0 for the first time or if you are installing an additional instance of it, then you can install this update at the same time that you install IBM Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0 by clicking Check for updates on the Install page of the Installing Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. For general instructions on installing an update, refer to the section "Installing IBM Rational Business Developer Extension using the IBM Installation Manager graphical interface" in the Installation Guide.

By default, the update is installed directly from the IBM update repository; however, it is also available for download. For details, see the specific installation instructions noted below for Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3.

2.4.1 Installing Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3 as an update

Install the fix pack with the same user account that installed the product.

The product cannot be open when you install this fix pack. Also, ensure that all browsers and other applications opened by Rational Business Developer Extension are closed.

To find and install Rational Application Developer, Version 7.0.0.3 as an update:

1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
2. On the Start page of Installation Manager, click the Update Packages button.
3. If a new version of Installation Manager is found, you are prompted to confirm that you want to install it before you can continue. Click OK to proceed. Installation Manager automatically installs the new version, stops, restarts, and resumes.
4. In the Update packages wizard, select the Installed Location for Rational Business Developer Extension and click Next. Installation Manager searches for updates in the Rational Business Developer Extension repository on the Web, as well as any repository locations that you entered. A progress indicator shows the search is taking place.
5. By default, recommended updates are displayed and selected on the Update Packages page. Ensure that you select Version 7.0.0.3 for Rational Business Developer Extension, then click Next.
6. On the Licenses page, read the license agreements for the update. On the left side of the License page; click each item to display the license agreement text.
   1. If you agree to the terms for all of the license agreements, click I accept the terms of the license agreements
   2. Click Next to continue.
   3. On the Summary page, review the information displayed, and then click Update. A progress indicator shows the percentage of the installation completed.
7. When the update process completes, a message that confirms the success of the process is displayed near the top of the page. Click View log file to open the log file for the current session in a new window. You must close the Installation Log window to continue.

You can download a compressed file containing the Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3 fix pack; the files that you extract from the compressed file form a repository for the fix pack. You can install the fix pack from the repository on your own computer, or you can copy the repository to a shared drive or an HTTP or HTTPS server.

To download and install the fix pack, complete the following steps:

1. Download the fix pack from http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/v7/rbd/7003/zips/rbd-7.0.0.3.zip.
2. Extract the compressed file in an appropriate directory. For example, extract the file to C:\temp.
3. Add the fix pack repository location in IBM Installation Manager:
   1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
   2. On the Start page of Installation Manager, click File > Preferences, and then click Repositories. The Repositories page opens.
   3. On the Repositories page, click Add Repository.
   4. On the Add repository window, browse to and enter the file path to the rbd\updates directory. For example, enter C:\temp\rbd\updates and then click OK.
   5. Click OK to close the Preference page.
4. Install the fix pack as described previously in this document.

   Note:
   During the process of updating from a local repository, Installation Manager might prompt you for the location of the repository for Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0. If you installed the product from CDs or other media, they must be available when you use the update feature.

2.5 Uninstalling the fix pack

Before you uninstall Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3, perform the following steps:

1. Log in with a user account that has the same privileges as the account that was used to install the packages to be uninstalled.
2. Close Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3 and any other applications that you installed with IBM Installation Manager.
3. If any applications opened by Rational Business Developer Extension are still open, such as a browser or IBM WebSphere Application Server, then close them.

To uninstall Rational Business Developer Extension, Version 7.0.0.3:

1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
2. On the Start page, click Uninstall Packages.
3. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

3.0 Fixes contained in this release

The following APARs are fixed in this release:

• (PK44267) Error invoking CICS web service from JSF page
• (PK44426) Creating EGL Interfaces and Binding Library generates inconsistent code
• (PK47622) The Rational Business Developer licensed is missing after running the activation kit

4.0 Known limitations, problems, and workarounds

4.1 Updates to ReportData built-in part

After applying this fix pack, you should regenerate and recompile any code created in Version 7.0.0 that uses the data field in an EGL ReportData built-in part. The ReportData.data field may have been used in an EGL application:

• If IBM Informix 4GL to EGL Conversion Utility was used to convert I4GL reports to Jasper reports, and if a resulting Jasper report had a subreport.
• If a new EGL application was written to create Jasper reports, and if the report received data from an EGL array of records rather than from a database.
