You can create the Operational Node Connectivity Description (OV-2)
and Operational Information Exchange Matrix (OV-3) products to describe the
elements in an operational environment and to analyze the interactions between
those elements.
Before you can perform this task, you must create a DoDAF modeling
project.
To create DoDAF Operational View products:
- In the Model Explorer view, expand the Operational
Nodes package and double-click the Operational Nodes
Diagram.
- Add operational nodes to the Operational Nodes package:
- In the Palette, click DoDAF.
- In the Palette, click Operational Node,
and then click in the diagram editor to insert the node.
- Type a name for the node, and press Enter.
- To add more operational nodes to the DoDAF model, repeat steps b through c.
- Add typed parameters to information exchanges (messages) in collaborations.
- In the Model Explorer view, expand the IO
Entities package and double-click the IO Entities Diagram.
- In the Palette, click Class
Diagram.
- In the Palette, click Class,
and then click in the diagram editor to insert a class to represent a parameter
type for an information exchange.
- Type a name for the class and press Enter.
- To add more parameter types, repeat steps c through d.
- Create collaborations to describe interactions between the operational
nodes in your model:
- In the Model Explorer view, expand your
DoDAF model and its DoDAF Views, Operational
View, and OV-6c views.
- To add a collaboration to the OV-6c view, right-click the OC-6c
view; then click .
- Type a name for the collaboration and press Enter.
- To add a sequence diagram and an interaction to the collaboration,
right-click the collaboration; then click .
- Add lifelines to the interaction to represent the operational
nodes in your model and add messages to describe information exchanges between
the nodes.
- Add parameters to each of the methods that correspond to the messages
that you created in step 5.
- In the Model Explorer view, expand an operational
node that receives a message that you created in step 5.
- In the Model Explorer view, right-click
the method that corresponds to the message; then click .
- Type a name for the parameter and press Enter.
- In the Properties view, click the Advanced tab.
- In the Property column, click the Type property.
- In the Value column, click the ellipsis
button (...).
- In the Select Element window, expand the
IO Entities package; then click a class to assign the parameter a type.
- Generate the Operational Node Connectivity Description (OV-2):
Right-click any element in your DoDAF model; then click . You might need
to rearrange the OV-2 diagram layout to make it easier to read.
- Generate the Operational Information Exchange Matrix (OV-3): Right-click
any element in your DoDAF model; then click . The
Operational Information Exchange Matrix (OV-3) is displayed in the DoDAF
OV-3 view.
