Otherwise, the process continues to run in the background and consume system resources. Closing the Web browser does not automatically stop the process. * You must stop the information center before modifying it or restarting it in a different mode. You can start and stop the information center in two modes: Mode 1: Starting and stopping the information center as a standalone client This mode runs an installed information center as a standalone client (on a random port number). It automatically launches a Web browser to view the documentation. You can start the information center as a standalone client in two ways: 1. Click Start --> Programs --> IBM OnDemand Information Center --> Local Information Center Server - Start. 2. In the directory where the information center is installed (the default directory is x:\Program Files\IBM\OnDemand Information Center), run local_start.bat. To stop the information center as a Web application server, click Start --> Programs --> IBM OnDemand Information Center --> Local Information Center Server - Stop, or run local_end.bat from the directory where the information center is installed. Mode 2: Starting and stopping the information center as a Web application server This mode runs the installed information center in the background as a Web application server (using Tomcat software). Other Web browsers on your network are connected to the information center on a port that defined by the -port parameter in the batch files. The default port number in the batch files is 8081. Make sure that you edit these two batch files to your own preferred port number. You can start the information center as a Web application server in two ways: 1. Click Start --> Programs --> IBM OnDemand Information Center --> Information Center Web Server - Start. 2. In the directory where the information center is installed (the default directory is x:\Program Files\IBM\OnDemand Information Center), run web_start.bat. Then to view the information center from a client Web browser, enter the following URL: http://hostname:port/help/ where hostname is the name of the host where the information center is currently running, and port is the port number that the information center uses (default is 8081). For example, if the information center is installed on the server xyz.ibm.com, and the web_start.bat file specifies port 8081, then the following Web address launches the information center: http://xyz.ibm.com:8081/help/ To stop the information center as a Web application server, click Start --> Programs --> IBM OnDemand Information Center --> Information Center Web Server - Stop, or run web_end.bat from the directory where the information center is installed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hints and tips For best results in the Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese languages: Set your Web browser to automatically detect the character encoding.
