Field-mapping editor

The field-mapping editor is used to specify field-to-field mapping of two templates. The information specified in this editor is used when invoking File Manager® utility functions that involves manipulation of fields while executing such as copy and compare utility functions. The mapping information is always stored in TO template (other template being FROM template). You can specify Base and DB2 templates.

You can start the field-mapping editor by either 1) invoking Template Field Mapping action from the pop-up menu in the Systems Information view, or 2) clicking on Mapping button in the template editor. When you invoke the editor from the system's information view, the first selection is used as TO template. If you select two templates, then the second selection is used as FROM template. When you invoke the editor by clicking on the mapping button in the template editor, then the currently edited template is used as TO template.

When you open the editor, TO template is always pre-filled based on your selection. By default, the same template is specified as FROM template unless you have selected two templates when you invoked the editor from the system's information view. You can always change the FROM template by either typing in the FROM template name, or looking it up by clicking on the Lookup button.

Once the editor is up and both TO & FROM template are specified, start the field-mapping session by clicking on the load button (load mapping image). If you specified field-mapping information before, then the saved mapping information is loaded into the editor. Otherwise, the default mapping is generated by File Manager. To re-set the field-mapping information, you need to click on the re-generate button (mapping regenerate button image). When you click on map button, Field selection dialog appears which allows you to select a field in FROM template.

Once the field-mapping information is loaded, fields are displayed side-by-side which represents how a field in TO template is mapped to a field in FROM template. You can change the field-mapping by selecting a field in TO template and selecting either map (map field button image) or unmap (unmap field button image) button. You can also specify attributes for a field by clicking the attributes button (attributes button image).

The field-mapping information is always stored in TO template. As you click OK button, the specified mapping information is validated and saved in the TO template. If any error, a dialog is displayed with the description of error discovered during the validation.
