Note: This README contains the instructions for installing the IBM® File Manager® plug-in into Rational Developer for System z.
The following minimum hardware levels are required to run Rational Developer for System z and are therefore applicable to the plug-in:
- CPU - 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor, dual or quad core recommended
- RAM - 2.0 GM minimum, 3.0 GB recommended
- Hard disk - 1.8 GB of disk space, plus 210 MB of temporary space
The following software is also required:
- File Manager® for z/OS Version 11.1 or later with the PTF for APAR PM47010
- One of the following levels of the Microsoft Windows operating system:
- Microsoft® Windows® XP 32-bit
- Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit
- Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 32-bit
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 32-bit
- Rational Developer for System z V7.6.1, or later
- Note: This plug-in supports only the Microsoft Windows version of Rational Developer for System z

The following steps are required in order to install IBM File Manager® plug-in for Eclipse into Rational Developer for System z environment:

Install Rational Developer for System z. Refer to the installation instructions that came with Rational Developer for System z for details.

If you have an older version of File Manager plug-in which was installed as part of the installation process for Rational Developer for System z
(the feature referred to as FMI), then you need to uninstall the old FMI feature using the Installation Manager first.

Download a zip file containing IBM File Manager® plug-in for Eclipse. Find the latest version
from IBM z/OS Problem Determination
Tools site. The zipped file is called
FM_RDZplugin_V11112.zip
.

Install IBM File Manager® plug-in for Eclipse into your Rational Developer for System z environment using the Installation Manager.

Start IBM Installation Manager and click File > Preferences ....

Click on Add Repository... button in the Repositories section. Select Browse... option and specify the zipped file containing the File Manager plug-in.
You need to specify
FM_Offering_V11112.zip
zip file which is found in the downloaded zipped file (
FM_RDzPlugin_V11112.zip
). Press OK.

Press OK again to close the preferences page.

Select Install option in the Installation Manager. You should see IBM File Manager plug-in for Eclipse in the list of Installation Packages. Select
the IBM File Manager plug-in for Eclipse and press next. NOTE: If you have an older version of File Manager plug-in for RDz, then choose Update option.

You should see the license agreement for the usage of IBM File Manager® plug-in for Eclipse. You must accept the terms to install the software. Press next.

Under the Location page, you should see a list of package groups that you have installed on your computer (Eg. Rational Developer for System z). You need to
select a target group to install the File Manager plug-in. Select a group and press next.

In the Features page, you should see IBM File Manager plug-in for Eclipse being selected. Press next.

Press Install in the Summary page. You should see The packages are installed message displayed in the Installation Manager. If any error occurs during
the install, it is important to record the error details here and send them to IBM support. Press Finish to complete the installation.
After following the installation steps above, you should be able to see File Manager sub-menu in the context menu when you click on
a resource which you can invoke a File Manager action (eg. edit a data set) in Remote System's view in Rational Developer for System z.
Host configuration: In order for File Manager extension for Rational Developer for System z to work correctly, you need to define a variable called
FM_SERVER_PORT in your RSE environment. You can do this by inserting a line in rsed.envvars file. For example, FM_SERVER_PORT=1539 where 1539
is the port number which your File Manager server is listening.

This plug-in is available at no charge to all licensed users of IBM File Manager® for z/OS V11, or later.
It is supplied under the standard terms and conditions of the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA)
and of the associated License Information and other documentation, and provides a defect correction entitlement
for those licensed users entitled to service for IBM File Manager® for z/OS V11, or later. Service is available
for this plug-in for as long as the IBM File Manager® for z/OS product with which the plug-in is to be
used is generally supported by IBM. In addition, IBM reserves the right to discontinue service on this plug-in
when it is withdrawn from marketing by IBM. Please reference "IBM File Manager for z/OS" as the entitled product
when contacting IBM and requesting support for this plug-in.
