Interactive tables

In this information center, tables with more than a user-defined number of rows can be sorted on a user-defined column and the table can be filtered so that only those rows that contain a specified string in a specified column are displayed.

Tables cannot be used interactively if they contain spanned rows or spanned columns other than in the table header or in a table note in the last row of the table.

Tables with column headings

If an interactive table has column headings, you can sort the rows of the table based on the contents of a column by selecting the column heading. The column will be sorted in ascending order. If the heading is selected again without sorting any other column, the order of the sorting is reversed.

To display only those rows in which a cell contains a particular string, enter the string, or a regular expression, choose the column from the drop-down list, and select the adjacent Go button.

Searching and filtering are cumulative; that is, each operation is applied to the results of the previous operation. If you want to reset the table so that all rows are displayed in their original order, select Reset.

The character string that is entered for filtering can contain wildcard characters: a question mark (?) represents any single character and an asterisk (*) represents any string of characters. Alternatively, the string can begin and end with a forward slash (/), in which case it is treated as a JavaScript regular expression (see Using JavaScript regular expressions).

Tables that do not have column headings

If an interactive table does not have column headings, you can sort the rows of the table based on the contents of a column by entering the number of the column and selecting the adjacent Go button. The column will be sorted in ascending order. If you select the Go button again, without sorting any other column, the order of the sorting is reversed.

The rows of the table can be filtered as described above.
