Connectivity to CICS

There is a choice of network protocols for connecting to CICS®.

Note: In these descriptions, the terms "local mode" and "remote mode" refer to whether the connection between Client application and Gateway uses a network connection. See the related topics for more information on running in local mode or remote mode.

All protocols support ECI COMMAREA requests.

IPIC
This protocol can be used for ECI requests to CICS COMMAREA or channel-based programs. IPIC supports two-phase commit transactions. SSL can be configured on IPIC connections in a local mode (two-tier) configuration. IPIC also supports the offload of work to a zSeries Application Assist Processor (zAAP).
EXCI
This protocol can be used for ECI requests to CICS COMMAREA programs. EXCI also supports two-phase commit transactions.
