Starting a Presentation

  1. Install the free RealPlayer on your workstation.

    1. Click on the RealPlayer icon at the bottom of the page. This takes you to the RealNetworks site.

    2. Click on "Download FREE RealPlayer".

    3. Fill out the form.

    4. Follow the directions on the page that follows the form. They instruct you to verify that you are downloading a RealPlayer appropriate for your operating system, select a server near you, select a directory on your hard drive to save the RealPlayer installation program, and start the installation program.
      NOTE: Close your browser before starting the installation program.

  2. After RealPlayer finishes installing, restart your browser and return to this education site.

  3. Click on the name of a presentation to view its abstract.

  4. Click on View online to start the presentation. Please wait a few moments for the video and slides to buffer.
    NOTE: If RealPlayer prompts you to fil out another form, follow the directions on the screen. You do not need to select topics of interest.

Controlling a Presentation

The presentation begins playing automatically, starting with the first clip. To select a different clip to play, take one of the following actions:

When Things Go Wrong

The following table lists common problems and solutions.
Problem Solution
I click on View online, RealPlayer opens a window, but nothing happens. Check the version of RealPlayer. Click on Help, then About RealPlayer... You must be at Version 6.0.3.128 or higher. If you have an older version, go back to the topics page and click on the RealPlayer icon at the bottom of the page.
I see a pink flicker in the video. Check the RealPlayer preference settings. Click on Options, then Preferences... Click on the Performance tab. Uncheck "Use optimized video display".
The video looks "choppy". Make sure you have selected the streaming option that best fits your setup. Select View online (28.8 bps) when you connect to the Internet via modem. Select View online (56.6 bps) when you connect to the Internet via a LAN.
