Acquiring VersaMail

IBM has made arrangements with palmOne for palmOne to provide WebSphere(R) Everyplace Access (“WEA”) licensees with a copy of VersaMail 2.7, without charge, under the following conditions:

  1. These copies of VersaMail 2.7 are for the exclusive use of WEA licensees and only for use on palmOne Treo 600 Smartphones; and
  2. palmOne will not provide support for VersaMail 2.7 on the Treo 600 Smartphones. You should not contact palmOne directly for support of Versamail 2.7

Refer to the following instructions to obtain VersaMail 2.7:

  1. Go to the following secure Palm Website: http://ps.palmone.com.
  2. Specify ibm@palmone.com as the username and Ver$aTreo as the password. (The password field is case sensitive.)
  3. Select IBM Versamail from the pull-down menu on the right side of the screen.
  4. Click Select Project.
  5. Click VersaMail Client.
  6. Click VersaMail 2.7 Archive to begin the download.

In addition, palmOne intends to replace VersaMail 2.7 with a subsequent version of VersaMail and will make this planned new release available to WEA licensees who had previously obtained VersaMail 2.7 through the secure Palm Web site mentioned above. palmOne will not charge for the license to the subsequent version of VersaMail. On release of this subsequent version of VersaMail, instructions on how to get a copy will be available at http://ps.palmone.com.

IBM, through an arrangement with palmOne, will provide WEA licensees with such support for VersaMail 2.7 that is received from the palmOne secure Web site mentioned above but only until the earlier of (a) the release or the successor product to VersaMail 2.7, (b) the expiration of any support you may have been entitled to for WEA or (c) December 31, 2004.. This support can be obtained through the standard WEA support channels. Once the subsequent release of VersaMail is available, support for VersaMail 2.7 will be discontinued, and support for the subsequent release must be obtained directly from PalmOne.

Enabling devices to receive the correct updates

If you already uploaded the IBM Everyplace Client Fix Pack 5 for Palm client and chose the target group as "ALL" on the DMS updater portlet, you need to modify the Portal group according to the following directions. Then, remove the existing Device Manager Server (DMS) package for Fix Pack 5 and upload the package again.

To enable devices to receive the correct updates, complete the following steps.

  1. Create a group that includes users who own devices other than the Tungsten-C, Tungsten-W, or Treo 600. For example, you might call this group "Non IF4" because this interim fix does not apply to those users.
  2. Create a group that includes uses who own Tungsten-C, Tungsten-W, or Treo 600 devices. For example, you might call this group "IF4" because this interim fix applies to those users.
  3. Use the DMS updater portlet to remove the existing DMS packages for Palm from all of the devices where you installed the package.
  4. Upload the Fix Pack 5 for Palm packages for the devices that are not supported by this interim fix. When you upload the packages, choose the name of the group that includes users who own devices other than the Tungsten-C, Tungsten-W, or Treo 600. In this example, this group is named "Non IF4."
  5. Upload the Fix Pack 5 Interim Fix 4 for Palm packages for the devices that are supported by this interim fix. When you upload the packages, choose the name of the group that includes users who own Tungsten-C, Tungsten-W, or Treo 600 devices. In this example, this group is named "IF4."
  6. Complete the remaining installation steps according to the instructions in the "IBM(R) Everyplace(R) Client Version 4.3.0 Fix Pack 5 Interim Fix 4 for Palm OS devices Readme."

Using a Secure Sockets Layer connection with the device agent

By default, the WebSphere(R) Everyplace Access installer installs the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) files (sslon.pdb and ssloff.pdb) on your computer. These files reside in the \dms-ssl folder in PalmOS-430504.zip file.

To enable the SSL connection for the device agent on your device, use HotSync to install sslon.pdb on your device.

To disable the SSL connection for the device agent from your device, use HotSync to uninstall ssloff.pdb from your device.
