OVERVIEW::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: This README file pertains to the current release of the firmware flash file for the MarkNet N2601e internal network adapter. Package file: N2601E.zip Flash file name: 6_22_49.pfh FLASH RELEASE 6.22.49 Release date: January 26, 2007 NOTES: 1) The flash file extension, .pfh, is used by the various utilities to distinguish between the various flash file types. The file extension must not be changed. 2) Note that pinging the adapter with large frames (over 1472 bytes) is not supported in this (and previous) firmware revision(s). There are no problems with doing a 'regular' ping command. II. KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF THE RELEASE::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 1) Adjusted DST begin and end dates for AST, EST, CST, MST, PST, Alaska, and Newfoundland time zones to comply with 2007 DST changes. 2) Fixed issue where SMTP ports and timeout settings were not saved over a power cycle. 3) Fixed DST dates in multiple time zones. 4) Corrected an issue with paper size selection in the Scan to PC applet for non-English. 5) Some minor fax adjustments 6) Some other minor bug fixes. Reminder: Fax from Driver does not work when the n2601e is in "Fax Server" mode. Users should send jobs directly from their PC to the fax server in these configurations. WARNING: After updating the n2601e adapter with this firmware, an adapter "hang" can occur if certain network settings are immediately changed. When updating n2601e adapters, the printer does not properly "finish" sending the firmware to the adapter (however, the adapter receives the complete firmware file). Because of this, the printer is still in a waiting state. If an adapter reset is performed at this time (by changing vital network settings, telling the adapter to reset, or otherwise), the system will hang. To prevent this from happening, send a print job or copy job to the adapter / printer or power-cycle the printer before changing network settings. III. LIMITATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY OF THE RELEASE::::::::::::::::::::::::: One of the following methods are required to update the MarkNet N2601e with this release of firmware flash: 1) The flash file can be sent down to the adapter via TFTP with a binary transfer. In the following examples the flash file is located in the C:\inaflash\ directory. NT server example: C:\>tftp -i 157.184.29.84 PUT C:\inaflash\6_22_49.pfh /dev/flash Transfer successful: 648434 bytes in 13 seconds, 19910 bytes/s 2) MarkVision Professional 1. From MarkVision Professional, select the "Firmware Download (Print Server)" task from the All Tasks list or click "Actions" -> "Firmware Download (Print Server)" from the menus. 2. Select the print servers you would like to update. For more information on locating devices, reference the MarkVision Professional User's Guide. 3. Click "New File" to find the downloaded MFP Software update file. This file will have a ".pfh" file extension. 4. Click "Start". 5. When the process is completed, you will receive notification that the flash was successful and the adapter will reset. 3) Adapter Webpage 1. Using your web browser, enter the IP address of your MFP system. This will bring up the MFP's web page. 2. Click the "Configuration" link on the left-hand side of the page. 3. Now click the "Update Print Server Firmware" link. 4. Choose the "Browse" button to select the firmware. Note that this file will have a ".pfh" extension. 5. RELEASE HISTORY::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 6.22.26 (EC2) -------------- Released: April 30, 2004 1) Fax - New option allows the MFP admin to select between the fax station name and station number for use as the station ID. In the past, the n2601e product has used the fax station name when communicating with remote fax machines. This is a widely accepted practice, but, strictly speaking, the fax T.30 spec states that only the characters [0 - 9,(,),+,- and space] should appear in the station ID. A new switch has been added to the analog fax configuration of the MFP. This new option allows the MFP admin to choose between the station name and station number for use as the fax station ID. 2) Fax - Improved recovery from loss of sync in V.34 transmissions. Improved V.34 synchronization in noisy line conditions. 3) Fax - Improved V.34 mode with ECM disabled. 4) Fax - Improved the handling of short fax frames that are received in ECM mode. 5) Fax - Restrict fax transmission protocol to V.27ter, V.29 and V.34 for French-made fax machines to improve compatibility. 6) Fax - Fax Receive Paper Type and the Fax Log Paper Type settings were not always being saved from the web page. In some cases, setting the Fax Receive Paper Type and the Fax Log Paper Type on the web page was not working properly. This has been fixed. 7) MFP / LDSS - Fixed a problem where certain LDSS scripts could cause the MFP to crash. 8) MFP / LDSS - Fixed a problem where using an LDSS duplex profile may cause other simplex email and fax shortcuts to erroneously send duplex. 9) MFP - There was a slight possibility that a very busy network could slow down copy jobs. Changes have been made that will reduce the likeliness of this happening. 10) MFP - Non-printing characters on the Copy Settings page for Italian and Swedish have been fixed. 11) MFP - Fixed the "Known Issue" from EC1 where a specific memory corruption issue could cause a MFP error. In EC1, there was a memory corruption issue that could occur when a very specific scan jobs was attempted. In test, we had found that the combination of TEXT + B&W + PS + 150dpi + A4 paper could cause this issue when using Scan to Email. Other combinations may have also existed. 12) Network - Fixed a crash that could occur when a host did not ACK job_complete packets. 13) IPDS - Added port 5001. 14) IPDS - Fixed a problem where IPDS print jobs that were terminated with a TCP/IP Reset would cause the printer to stay Busy. 6.22.24 (EC1) -------------- Released: October 8, 2003 1) Disabled the ability to cancel the printing of incoming faxes. 2) Added "Mixed Size" paper support for Scan to Network (email/ftp/etc). 3) Ignore the username "MarkNet". 4) Added support for color-changing panel status applet. 5) "Manage Destinations" is now properly protected by the adapter password, if set. 6) Enabled translated LDAP search applet. 7) Scan to PC profile issue fixed... 8) Fax improvements. 9) Corrected behaviour of stapled flatbed copy jobs. 10) Fixed a minor problem with "Secure Fax". 6.22.11 (SOP) -------------- Released: April 7, 2003 Original Release
