Java 1.1.x and Java 1.2.2 are not supported. See file: mvp-supported-platforms.txt Documentation ------------- Install instructions are available in the /docs directory of the CD-ROM. Complete user guides are available in the /docs directory in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. /docs/markvision-pro-userguide.pdf Adobe Acrobat PDF format user guide Installing and Removing MarkVision ---------------------------------- Relocation of MarkVision components ----------------------------------- Systems using the pkgadd utility allow the user to install the packages in separate directories. The MarkVision and Enhanced Printer Driver components are intended to be installed in ONE location. Therefore, if you have first installed the MVclient component in its default location, i.e. '/opt/ibm', ALWAYS install the other components, e.g. IBMMVprint, IBMMVfonts components in the same location. DO NOT install MarkVision or Enhanced Printer Driver components in different locations on the same machine. Installation quirks using pkgadd -------------------------------- Some systems using the pkgadd utility require you to create the installation directory before continuing the installation process. Once the directory is created, pkgadd may display a message about a conflicting directory. You may see a message similar to the following displayed: -------------------------------------------------------------------- The following files are already installed on the system and are being used by another package: /opt/ Do you want to install these conflicting files [y,n,?,q] -------------------------------------------------------------------- Select "yes" to continue the installation. This message is meant to warn you about possible conflicts. Once you select "yes" the installation process should continue without further warnings. Pre-Removal Steps ----------------- Before removing the MarkVision components as outlined in the MarkVision Users Guide, kill all currently running MarkVision daemons. /usr/mv_pro/bin/MvService stop /usr/mv_pro/bin/MvWebService stop Package removal quirks using pkgrm ---------------------------------- When removing all MarkVision components on systems using the pkgrm utility, the last component may partially fail to remove. pkgrm does not completely remove the component because MarkVision stores some configuration information in the install directories. Ignore this error if you are upgrading MarkVision. If you want to completely remove MarkVision from your system, use pkgrm to remove the component again. Known Problems -------------- MarkVision Professional not supported under KDE 2 environments -------------------------------------------------------------- MarkVision Professional is currently not supported under KDE 2 environments due to a reported bug in Sun's Java Virtual Machine 1.3.x. However, the supported Linux platforms under KDE 1 have been found to function correctly. For details of the bug please refer to Sun's Java website at: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4392053.html Bug ID: 4392053 Synopsis: Window management problems under KDE 2 (Linux) State: In progress, bug Reported Against: 1.3 Screens on Red Hat/SuSE Linux appear small or minimized ------------------------------------------------------- Due to a problem handling Java dialog boxes, various screens may appear small or minimized when launched and must be maximized and/or restarted. This problem is documented in Sun Bug ID 4392518 and will be addressed in future releases. *********************************************************************** * Lexmark, MarkNet, MarkVision, and Optra are trademarks of Lexmark * * International, Inc, and may be registered in some countries. * * * * All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners. * * * *********************************************************************** * (c) Copyright 1995, 2002 Lexmark International, Inc. * * All rights reserved * ***********************************************************************
