IMPORTANT: If the code level is 901.xxx, you are upgrading from "EC1". If your code level is 902.xxx (lower than 902.023C), you are upgrading from "EC2". Follow the instructions below depending upon your current code level. Note: The total expected time to complete the MFP Software Update is up to 2 hours, plan accordingly. Please announce to all potential users that the MFP will be down during this time. Note: Update file extensions must be retained. Do not alter them. Note: Before beginning the Update process, boot the MFP (including the printer) and make sure it is "Ready" and on the "Home" screen. Upgrading from EC1 to EC2 ------------------------- IMPORTANT: Users that are already at MFP software version 902.xxx should skip to the "Upgrading from EC2 to EC2.5" section below. IMPORTANT: If your machine is currently using 901.xxx MFP software, you will need to obtain MFP Software version 902.018F from the IBM website site (http://www.printers.ibm.com/). Once you have this MFP Software version, install it using the ReadMe for 902.018F before proceeding. Upgrading from EC2 to EC2.5 (902.023C) -------------------------------------- !! DO NOT POWER OFF THE MFP OR SCANNER AT ANY TIME DURING THIS UPDATE !! IMPORTANT: MFP Software 902.017 or higher is REQUIRED to apply this update. If your MFP is using firmware 901.xxx (EC1), you will need to first update to 902.018F (EC2) (following the update instructions above) before applying the update to 902.023C. IMPORTANT: Beginning with this 902.023C (EC2.5) code release, IBM will be using a new MFP software update procedure. There are now two methods to update the software, using the adapter's web page or using MarkVision Professional. There is no longer any way to use ftp or tftp to apply this software update. NOTE: A high-speed network connection between your computer and the MFP is suggested when performing this update. Using the adapter web page to update MFP Software ------------------------------------------------- (1) Using your web browser, enter the IP address of your MFP system. This will bring up the MFP's web page. (2) Click the "Configuration" link on the left-hand side of the page. (3) Now click the "Update MFP Firmware" link. (4) Choose the "Browse" button to select the MFP Software. Note that the MFP Software fill will have a ".mf2" extension. (5) Once you have located and selected the .mf2 MFP software update file, click "Submit". A new window will open showing the status of the software upload. DO NOT navigate away from the original web page where you pressed "Submit", as this page is actually uploading the software. The popup window is only showing you the status of that upload. Note: The upload will take some time, as it is approximately 250MB. (6) AFTER the code is completely uploaded, wait up to 30 minutes as the update is applied to the MFP controller. There is no on-screen indication that this is occurring, however, the MFP will reset itself once this step is complete. !! DO NOT POWER OFF THE MFP OR SCANNER AT ANY TIME DURING THIS PROCESS !! (7) On the automatic reboot, the MFP will present a screen telling you that it is updating code. This step will take approximately another 40 minutes while the MFP is completely reinstalling, updating, and reformatting and partitioning the disk. Because of the major updating that is going on at this point, the MFP cannot be used until the update is complete. !! DO NOT POWER OFF THE MFP OR SCANNER AT ANY TIME DURING THIS PROCESS !! (8) Once complete, the MFP will reboot itself and will be updated to 902.023c MFP software and 911.003 boot code. Using MarkVision Professional to update MFP Software ---------------------------------------------------- NOTE: MarkVision Professional version 7.4 or higher is required for IBM MFP support. (1) From MarkVision Professional, select the "Firmware Download (Print Server)" task from the All Tasks list or click "Actions" -> "Firmware Download (Print Server)" from the menus. (2) Select the print servers you would like to update. For more information on locating devices, reference the MarkVision Professional User's Guide. (3) Click "New File" to find the downloaded MFP Software update file. This file will have a ".mf2" file extension. (4) Click "Start". The software upload will take some time, as it is approximately 250MB. (5) AFTER the code is completely uploaded, wait up to 30 minutes as the update is applied on the MFP controller. There is no on-screen indication that this is happening, however, the MFP will reset itself once this step is complete. !! DO NOT POWER OFF THE MFP OR SCANNER AT ANY TIME DURING THIS PROCESS !! (6) On the automatic reboot, the MFP will present a screen telling you that it is updating code. (7) Once complete, the MFP will reboot itself and will be updated to 902.023C MFP software and 911.003 boot code. IV.
