When a java app is invoked from linux-mozilla for example, the java_vm eats all CPU and must be killed with kill -9. The app does not function. Apparently this problem does not exist if linux_base-6 is used instead. (But certain apps, like StarOffice, require linux_base-7). This apparently has been reported before, and discussed on mailing lists and newsgroups, but no pr could be found. >How-To-Repeat: 1. install /usr/ports/emulators/linux_base 2. install /usr/ports/java/linux-sun-jdk13 3. install /usr/ports/www/linux-mozilla 4. Visit any page with a java application. >Fix: Use linux_base-6 instead, which breaks some other applications, like StarOffice. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-ports->java Responsible-Changed-By: znerd Responsible-Changed-When: Fri Oct 11 16:37:37 PDT 2002 Responsible-Changed-Why: More appropriate for freebsd-java. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=43724 From: Bryan Liesner To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org Cc: elvis_paris@yahoo.com, freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: java/43724: linux_base-7.1 + linux-sun-jdk-1.3.1.04 don't work together Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 01:02:11 -0400 I'm not seeing this at all. linux_base-7.1_1 and linux-sun-jdk-1.3.1.04_1 are installed. The only difference here is that I download the linux nightly builds of mozilla and do not install linux-mozilla via the ports. I'm currently on 4.7-STABLE but have not seen this problem through earlier 4.x versions. Java applications and applets all work fine with this combination.
