I don't think there have been critical bug fixes between beta6 and beta7 that affect the tiger. Also, on a 4GB machine, FreeBSD ignores RAM above 1GB. Jens, were you using a serial console ? I did attach a monitor as well for testing since I didn't know if freebsd utilized the serial console automatically. I since looked at the boot loader config and saw that it did and the config was correct. -- Jens Axboe From: Jens Axboe To: Arun Sharma Cc: Mark Linimon , freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org, freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ia64/72128: 5.3-beta6 doesn't boot Date: Sat, 9 Oct 2004 20:02:26 +0200 On Fri, Oct 08 2004, Arun Sharma wrote: > On 10/8/2004 2:24 PM, Arun Sharma wrote: > >On 10/7/2004 11:02 PM, Mark Linimon wrote: > > > >>This may be processor-specific. > >> > >>http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=72128 > > > > > >I just tested that the 5.3-beta7 works fine on a 4 way Tiger with 1GB > >RAM. It looks like your serial console is working fine for EFI. Could you please check the settings for the kernel in the boot loader ? I use something like: hw.uart.console="io:0x2f8,br:57600" Your baud rate might be different. But you certainly need to change the io to 0x2f8 (COM2) from the default of 0x3f8 (COM1) on the Tiger. -Arun From: Jens Axboe To: Arun Sharma Cc: Mark Linimon , freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org, freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ia64/72128: 5.3-beta6 doesn't boot Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004 22:21:06 +0200 On Thu, Oct 21 2004, Arun Sharma wrote: > Jens Axboe wrote: > >Hi, > > > >Here's the memmap on my box: > > > >Shell> memmap > > Looks pretty similar to my 4GB box. But I thought the serial port on the tiger _was_ on 0x3f8. Given that the box does not create the DIG64 HCDP table, there's no other way to tell the kernel which serial port to use than setting the hw.uart.console variable. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=72128 From: Arun Sharma To: Jens Axboe Cc: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ia64/72128: 5.3-beta6 doesn't boot Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2004 12:36:56 -0700 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------010800020801000604010405 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit On 10/18/2004 4:34 AM, Jens Axboe wrote: > On Sat, Oct 09 2004, Jens Axboe wrote: >> On Fri, Oct 08 2004, Arun Sharma wrote: >> > On 10/8/2004 2:24 PM, Arun Sharma wrote: >> > >On 10/7/2004 11:02 PM, Mark Linimon wrote: >> > > >> > >>This may be processor-specific. >> > >> >> > >>http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=72128 >> > > >> > > >> > >I just tested that the 5.3-beta7 works fine on a 4 way Tiger with 1GB >> > >RAM.
