A dual P3 server which uses Intel's 440GX chipset with a PERC3 Raid adaptor. >Description: When the kernel probes for USB, it gives a message, move the IRQ and hangs. (sorry I don't have the message, but I can get it) It boots fine with a kernel that doesn't have USB support. Note that the motherboard doesn't have any USB plug or device and the BIOS doesn't have anything about USB. I guess that it is in the southbridge but not supported by the motherboard. I tried Knoppix and OpenBSD, they detect the USB and boot fine. >How-To-Repeat: Boot a GENERIC kernel on a Dell PowerEdge 4300. >Fix: Wish I knew. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: State-Changed-From-To: open->feedback State-Changed-By: simon State-Changed-When: Tue May 4 15:22:34 PDT 2004 State-Changed-Why: Does this problem still exist with a more recent FreeBSD version (e.g. 5.2.1-RELEASE og 5.2-CURRENT)? http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=57632 From: Avtar Gill To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, drvince@users.sourceforge.net Cc: Subject: Re: i386/57632: Dell PowerEdge 4300 is allergic to FreeBSD's USB Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2004 18:30:41 -0400 > Does this problem still exist with a more recent FreeBSD version > (e.g. 5.2.1-RELEASE og 5.2-CURRENT)? I tried booting a Dell Poweredge 4300/500 (440GX) server with a 5.2.1-RELEASE CD and the boot process hung at the USB detection phase. Following is part of the text that scrolls by while booting the server.. atapci0: port 0xffa0-0xffaf at device 7.1 on pci0 ata0: at 0x1f0 irq 14 on atapci0 ata0: [MPSAFE] ata1: at 0x170 irq 15 on atapci0 ata1: [MPSAFE] uhci0: port 0-0x1f at device 7.2 on pci0 State-Changed-From-To: feedback->closed State-Changed-By: julian State-Changed-When: Tue Jan 11 18:13:40 GMT 2005 State-Changed-Why: Reports back from the field indicate that this now works. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=57632 >Unformatted:
