I get an 'X' under "Name" instead of a device, even though I have created the appropriate device: /dev/wd0s5 (with correct major/minor numbers). I'd like to use this unallocated space but it appears that there is a limitation of 4 FDISK partitions. >How-To-Repeat: Go to the FDISK Partition Editor and try to create five partitions. >Fix: I guess a simple change to the partition editor to allow the user to place a device name in the "Name" column would help. Or, the system could guess the next logical device; it's obvious that you use the next number in sequence. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: From: Poul-Henning Kamp To: sdn@slip.net Cc: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: conf/10330: I can't create a 5th fdisk partition; I want to use the rest of my disk. Date: Mon, 01 Mar 1999 19:28:46 +0100 Sorry, we do not support creating "extended" partitions in the "fdisk" editor. 4 is the max number of "real" partitions you can have in an (M$ designed) Fdisk table. -- Poul-Henning Kamp FreeBSD coreteam member phk@FreeBSD.ORG "Real hackers run -current on their laptop." Date: Mon, 1 Mar 1999 15:53:16 -0500 (EST) h c'mon :P.. You cant have 5 primary partitions for 1 disk.. that's a regular limitation, nothing to do with FreeBSD On Mon, 1 Mar 1999 sdn@slip.net wrote: > > >Number: 10330 > >Category: conf > >Synopsis: I can't create a 5th fdisk partition; I want to use the rest of my disk. > >Confidential: no > >Severity: serious > >Priority: low > >Responsible: freebsd-bugs > >State: open > >Quarter: > >Keywords: > >Date-Required: > >Class: sw-bug > >Submitter-Id: current-users > >Arrival-Date: Mon Mar 1 10:20:00 PST 1999 > >Closed-Date: > >Last-Modified: > >Originator: Steve Davidson > >Release: 2.2.8-RELEASE > >Organization: > >Environment: > FreeBSD 2.2.8-RELEASE > >Description: > When I run /stand/sysinstall, and go to the FDISK Partition Editor, > I try to create a 5th partition on unallocated space.
