Known Limitations and Problems --------------------------------- This section documents limitations and problems with the Tivoli Storage Network Manager 1.1.2 Please report problems to your Tivoli Storage Network Manager support contact. For more information about support, visit the Tivoli Support website at http://www.support.tivoli.com/ Contact the product Screen Team(screen.team@tivoli.com) for the latest status about these limitations. You should also read the Readme files for each of the other products you are installing (Tivoli Kernel Services, DB2, etc.). General Limitations ------------------- SUN SOLARIS NOT SUPPORTED IN THIS VERSION SUN Solaris is not supported in this version of Tivoli Storage Network Manager. Please contact the Screen Team (screen.team@tivoli.com) for the latest status about these functions. LUN AND DISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS NOT SUPPORTED IN THIS VERSION Please contact the Screen Team (screen.team@tivoli.com) for the latest status about these functions. FILE SYSTEM MONITORING AND EXTENSION NOT SUPPORTED IN THIS VERSION Please contact the Screen Team (screen.team@tivoli.com) for the latest status about these functions. Known Problems --------------- MAKE SURE MANAGER IS RUNNING BEFORE STARTING MANAGED HOST MACHINES Due to timing issues, you should make sure the Manager is running before you start up any Managed Hosts that are being managed by that Manager. Otherwise the services on the Managed Hosts may not start up correctly. CHANGES TO A LOOP TOPOLOGY REQUIRES A REBOOT OF THE MANAGED HOST When certain changes occur on a public loop of disk drives attached to a FL_port, the topology submap (in Manage Networks) might not match the actual loop topology. For more information about the conditions under which this can occur and how to remedy the situation, see Submap Does Not Match the Loop Topology help topic in the Troubleshooting section of the Manage Networks online help. UNABLE TO LAUNCH NETSCAPE WEB BROWSER FROM MANAGE NETWORKS COMPONENT Launching a web-based device management application from the Manage Networks component (Storage Net Mgr in Tivoli NetView menu bar) may fail if Netscape Navigator is set as the default browser. If Netscape Navigator is your default browser, make sure you have the browser running before you launch the device management application. AGENT CONFIGURATION DIALOG OCCASIONALLY HANGS The Agent Configuration dialog (Tivoli NetView -> Storage Net Mgr -> Agent Configuration) may occasionally hang. If this occurs, you need to stop and restart both orbs (orb.1 and orb.2) on the Manager. You can find instructions for stopping and restarting orbs in the Tivoli Storage Network Manager Installation Guide (search for "orb" in the index). TOPOLOGY VIEWS OF MULTIPATHED MANAGED HOSTS MAY NOT DISPLAY COMPLETELY For Managed Hosts that have multipathing software installed, the Host Centric and Device Centric views in the network topology display may not be complete. CONNECTION STATUS BETWEEN TWO CASCADED SWITCHS MAY NOT UPDATE PROPERLY If two switches are connected to each other, the status of the connection in the NetView console may not be updated properly. For example, after disconnecting the two switches, the connection may still be shown as normal in the Tivoli NetView console. SAN ICONS DISAPPEAR FROM TIVOLI NETVIEW CONSOLE AFTER REBOOTING CONSOLE MACHINE In some cases the icons of your SAN may disappear from the Tivoli NetView console after rebooting that machine. To recover the icons: 1. Open a DOS command prompt 2. Issue command: ovstop nvdaemon 3. Issue command: ovstart nvdaemon BLANK TEC FIELD CAUSES INADVERTENT ERROR MESSAGE On the Event Destinations panel, entering an SNMP IP address but leaving the TEC field empty results in an error message when you click the Add button. The error message indicates an invalid TEC value. Clicking OK on the message popup removes the message and adds your SNMP entries to the SNMP Event Destination table. No actual product functions are affected. MISSING JAR FILE MESSAGE DURING ORB.2 STARTUP In some cases you may see a warning message indicating a missing file (SDSRemoteServiceInterface@5.1.1.jar) during the startup of orb.2. This warning can be ignored as it does not affect the product. CHECK FOR THE .TOC FILE AFTER COPYING OR MOVING INSTALLATION FILES If you need to move or copy installation files to another location or machine, you must make sure that all the files get moved or copied to the target location. In some cases, files such as the .toc are not properly handled by the operating system. After copying or moving installation files, check to see that all the intended files exist on the target location. KNOWN HOSTS MAY DISPLAY AS ROGUE ON TIVOLI NETVIEW CONSOLE Under certain circumstances, the Tivoli Netview Console may indicate that some hosts are rogue when they actually are not. If this occurs, contact your Tivoli support representative. 6. Fixed Problems --------------- The following items, listed as Known Problems in the Tivoli Storage Network Manager R1.1.1 Readme, have been fixed. MANAGER AND MANAGED HOST NOT SUPPORTED ON SAME MACHINE Currently you cannot have the same machine running the Manager code and the Managed Host code. OBJECTS WITH UNDISTINGUISHABLE LUN IDS DISPLAY STANDARD ICONS In certain cases, devices that have undistinguishable LUN IDs may not display icons reflecting this state. In these cases, the display will show the standard icon for that object type. SNMP AGENT NAME LISTED IN IP ADDRESS COLUMN When adding an SNMP agent on the Agent Configuration dialog (Tivoli NetView -> Storage Net Mgr -> Configure Agents), if you enter a hostname for an agent, the hostname will be entered in the IP Address column in the SNMP Agents table. This will not affect the proper functioning of the agent. MAXIMIZING THE CONFIGURE MANAGER DIALOG BOX WITH HELP CAUSES INCORRECT DIALOG FIELD DISPLAY The Configure Manager dialog (Storage Net Mgr -> Configure Manager from the Tivoli NetView menu bar) displays fields incorrectly when maximized together with the online help. You can correct the display by clicking the help button again, which will close the help. EXTERNAL CONTROLLER MAY INCORRECTLY DISPLAY AS UNDISTINGUISHED OBJECT An external controller may display incorrectly as an Undistinguished External Controller on the network topology display. To determine if that external controller really is an undistinguished object, select the object and select SAN Properties from the Storage Net Mgr menu bar pulldown. You can then verify the object type of the external controller by looking at the list of properties. POLLING ACTIVITY ON MANAGER AND MANAGED HOSTS AFTER UNINSTALL After uninstalling Tivoli Storage Network Manager, you may see some polling activity occurring on both the Manager and the Managed Hosts. Stopping and restarting the orbs on these machines will cancel that activity. PORTFOLIO DOES NOT MATCH PRODUCT DOCUMENTATION In some cases, the entries in the Tivoli Console portfolio do not match what is shown and discussed in the product documentation. This will be fixed in the next product update. ALL TEC EVENTS HAVE SAME SEVERITY LEVEL All TEC events and their corresponding SNMP traps generated by the Manage Networks component show the same severity level: HARMLESS. These events provide information about your SAN resulting from the discovery process, such as New Device Detected. 7.
