Having your metadata created automatically

Rational ProjectConsole Designer Help

To have your metadata created automatically:

  1. In the Name prefix field, type a unique prefix to use in the names of the generated target tables, mapping, and collection task.

The Field types table lists the fields in your source template.

  2. For each field in the Source Fields column, click the Data type field, and then, from the list, select the data type of the corresponding target field. You can select String, Integer, or Float.

If you select String, Rational ProjectConsole uses the data it collects from that source field to create distribution charts, and generates a new dimension table to hold the collected string data.

Note: If your source template includes a date/time source field, leave the default data type, which is String.

If you select Integer or Float, Rational ProjectConsole treats the data it collects from that source field as a measurement, and stores it in the generated measure table. An example of this would be the number of errors in a test report.

  3. To have Rational ProjectConsole create the metadata, click OK, or, if you prefer to create the metadata manually later on, click Cancel.
ProjectConsole generates the following metadata for your source template: Note that the scheduled task (<prefix>_task) for collecting your data is not activated until you edit the task and set the collection schedule to run it.

If your source template contains a date/time source field

If ProjectConsole creates metadata for the new source template automatically, and the template contains a date/time field, you must complete additional steps before you run a collection. For information, see Automatically created metadata and the date/time dimension.
