Creating a scheduled collection task

Rational ProjectConsole Designer Help

To create a scheduled collection task:

  1. On the Designer File menu, point to New, and then click Scheduled Task or, on the Designer toolbar, click .
  2. In the Task window, on the General page, in the Name field, type a unique name for the task.
  3. To select a computer on which to run the task, perform the following actions:
    1. Click Select Hostname.
    2. From the Select Hostname window, in the Hostname list, select the name of an available machine to run the task.
Note: This computer must be running the Rational ProjectConsole agent software. It can be either the Rational ProjectConsole server or an agent.
    3. Click OK.
Note: The host machine you specify for the collection task overrides the host specified for the domain source template, if they are set to different machines.
  4. Click the Parameters tab.

The Parameters table is already populated with the parameters from the source template.

  5. If a parameter such as username or password in the Parameters table requires a value, then next to the parameter name, click the Value column, and type a value.
  6. To add a task parameter, click Add, and then specify a name and value for the parameter in the Task Parameter window.
Note: After you add a parameter, you can change its value on the Parameters page in the Scheduled Task window, but you cannot change its name.

Repeat this step for each parameter that you want to add.

For information about defining parameters for a collection task, see Defining collection parameters.

  7. (Optional) In the Startup Commands field, type the commands (Windows batch commands), if any, to execute at startup, before data collection starts.

For more information about specifying startup and shutdown commands in a collections task, see Defining startup and shutdown commands.

  8. (Optional) In the Shutdown Commands field, type the commands, if any, to execute after the collection task runs.

At this point, you have provided enough information to run this task manually.

  9. To set up a schedule for the task so that the Designer runs it automatically, perform the steps in Scheduling a task to run automatically.
  10. Save the scheduled collection task by performing one of the following actions:
    • On the Designer toolbar, click .
    • On the Designer File menu, click Save.
