Installing Connectivity Software

If you are installing the Web component on a system with no Informix products on it, you must first install and configure INFORMIX-ESQL/C on your UNIX system.

Tip: If you are unsure whether or not the connectivity software is working successfully, use the $INFORMIXDIR/apb/bin/dbtest program to test your database connection.

You must install and configure INFORMIX-ESQL/C, Version 7.23, on any system on which you plan to install the Web component.

To install INFORMIX-ESQL/C on UNIX

1. Change directory to a temporary directory.

2. Copy the esql.tar file from the esql7.23 directory to the temporary directory.

3. Extract the INFORMIX-ESQL/C files by entering:

tar -xvf esql.tar

4. Run the installesql script while logged on as the root superuser.

When you install INFORMIX-ESQL/C, you install

the runtime libraries that enable the Web component to communicate with the database server.
the development libraries to create Universal Web Connect API applications.
