The installation files for IBM OS/2 Warp Developer Kit, Java Technology Edition, Version 1.3 reside in the \java13 directory on the Convenience Package 2 for OS/2 Warp Server for e-business Installation CD. See the README.ln file, in each directory for installation instructions, where "ln" is the appropriate language. In the directory for Java 1.3, there is also a README.1st file. 2.0 WARNING WHEN INSTALLING JAVA 1.1.8 FROM THE INSTALLATION CD _______________________________________________________________ When installing the IBM OS/2 Warp Developer Kit, Java(TM) Technology Edition, Version 1.1.8, you will see the following warning message: "The Java Runtime on the system is newer than the version being installed. Do you still wish to install the Java Runtime?" This warning appears because the Convenience Package has already installed the Java Runtime and the Swing Runtime packages during an earlier phase of the installation. You can select "Yes" and continue the installation without adversely affecting the Java Runtime. To keep this message from appearing, deselect the Java Runtime and Swing Runtime checkboxes during the Advanced Path installation. 3.0 JAVA 1.1.8 CLASSPATH VERIFICATION _____________________________________ The Java 1.1.8 Runtime Environment is installed with the Convenience Package. After installation, examine the CLASSPATH entry in the CONFIG.SYS file and ensure that it includes the following path information: x:\java11\lib\classes.zip where x: is the drive on which the IBM OS/2 Warp Developer Kit, Java Technology Edition, Version 1.1.8 is installed). If the path information is not in the CLASSPATH entry, you must add it manually. Note: For Java 1.3, it is not necessary to add the path information to the CLASSPATH entry. 4.0 IBM KEY MANAGEMENT UTILITY WORKS INCORRECTLY WITH JAVA VERSION 1.3 _____________________________________________________ To use the "Key Management Utility" icon in the "IBM HTTP Server" folder when the version of Java is version 1.3, do the following: 1. Using a text editor, edit the \IBMHTTPServer\ikeyman.cmd file. 2. Locate the line that looks like the following line: if "%JAVA_HOME" == "" SET JAVA_HOME= 3. Substituting the correct drive letter for your system, change the line to read as follows: SET JAVA_HOME=C:\JAVA11 4. Immediately after that line, add the following statement: SET PATH=%JAVA_HOME%\bin;%path% 5. Save the changes to the \IBMHTTPServer\ikeyman.cmd file. 5.0 LIMIT ON NUMBER OF LVM PARTITIONS _____________________________________ Do not create more than 120 total partitions when creating volumes on your system with the Logical Volume Manager (LVM). Exceeding this total might cause data loss. 6.0 DOMINO SERVER ADVANCED INSTALL TRAPS ________________________________________ If Domino Server Advanced Install traps in EPFIDLDS.EXE, it may be because of an insufficient stack space allocation. GRADD video drivers require more stack space than older drivers, and so may indirectly cause the Advanced Install to trap. If you experience this problem, use Selective Install, click the Primary Display icon, then select either the VGA driver or the Super VGA (SVGA) driver, before proceeding with the Domino Server Advanced Install. After the Domino Server Advanced Install, you can use Selective Install to reinstall the original GRADD video driver. 7.0 GENERAL EURO CURRENCY SUPPORT _________________________________ This section discusses several topics regarding support for the Euro currency symbol. 7.1 Entering the Euro Symbol Many applications running on an OS/2 or WIN-OS/2(R) operating system will support the Euro currency symbol. However, some applications may not process the Euro correctly. In OS/2, WIN-OS/2, and DOS sessions, the Euro symbol can be entered by typing altgr-E for most keyboards. Some keyboards, however, use altgr-4 or altgr-5 instead of altgr-E. See the table below. Keyboard OS/2 WIN-OS/2 DOS --------- ------- -------- ------- Belgium altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Canada (bilingual, multilingual) altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Canada (French) altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Croatia altgr-E n/a n/a Czech Republic altgr-E n/a altgr-E Danish altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Dutch altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Finnish altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E French altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E German altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Greece altgr-E n/a altgr-E Icelandic altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Italian altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Norwegian altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Portuguese altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Romania altgr-E n/a altgr-E Slovakia n/a n/a altgr-E Slovenia altgr-E n/a altgr-E Spanish altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Swedish altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Swiss French altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Swiss German altgr-E altgr-E altgr-E Turkey altgr-E n/a altgr-E United Kingdom (uk 166) altgr-4 altgr-4 altgr-4 United Kingdom (uk 168) altgr-E n/a altgr-E United States International altgr-E altgr-5 altgr-E n/a (Not available) NOTE: The Euro currency symbol is supported in codepage 850 and in the Windows 1252 codepage. The Euro currency symbol is not available in codepage 437 and in the US keyboard layout. Use codepage 850 and the US International keyboard instead. 7.2 Printing the Euro Symbol It is possible to print the Euro with inkjet printers. To print on LaserJet printers, turn off the font substitution logic in the print driver. In a WIN-OS/2 session, the Euro currency symbol may not be available in all fonts and in all applications. 7.3 Setting the Euro Symbol as the Default Currency Symbol To set the Euro symbol as the default currency symbol on the OS/2 and WIN-OS/2 operating system, use the OS/2 Country Palette (Locale). The Country Palette (Locale) can be found in the OS/2 System Setup folder. To start the Country Palette, double-click on Locale in the System Setup folder. To change the default currency symbol for OS/2, select one of the locales in the Country Palette. Next, right-click on the locale and select "properties". Click the monetary tab and enter the Euro currency symbol into the symbol field. If the Euro symbol does not appear, see the note below. Close the locale's properties dialog. To change the default WIN-OS/2 currency symbol, select the locale you just modified. Next, right-click on the locale and select "mark as default". Close the Country Palette. NOTE: In some cases it will be necessary to first set the locale's codepage to 850. The locale's codepage can be changed on the advanced page in the Country Palette. Select the "iCodepage" item from the advanced page and set the value to 850. To make the change active, close the locale's properties dialog. 7.4 Canadian French Users On a Canadian French system, you must use codepage 850 to enter the Euro currency symbol. To change your codepage to 850, open an OS/2 command prompt and type "chcp 850". From the same command prompt used to change the codepage, start the program into which you want to enter a Euro currency symbol. To enter the Euro symbol using the Canadian Bilingual/Multilingual keyboard, type altgr-E. To enter the Euro symbol using the Canadian French keyboard, type altgr-E. NOTE: Do not permanently switch your codepage to 850 in CONFIG.SYS if you have installed your system as Canadian French with primary codepage 863. Changing the codepage to 850 will cause icons to disappear from your desktop. To restore your icons, reset the codepage to 863 and restart the system. 8.0 USB SUPPORT _______________ This section provides additional topics discussing Universal Serial Bus (USB) support. 8.1 Activating USB Support -------------------------- In "Section 3.1.1 Activating USB Support" of the README.TXT, a step was omitted. The entire section and sequence of steps follows: The base USB stack and device drivers are already installed on your hard file. To activate the stack and device drivers, follow the instructions below. You must activate the base USB stack. Activating the base USB device drivers is optional. To activate the base USB stack (required): 1. Remove the REM from the following statements in the CONFIG.SYS file: REM BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS REM BASEDEV=USBD.SYS /REQ:USBUHCD$ REM BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS 2. For systems with multiple USB host controllers, the host controller driver must be specified for each hardware controller. For example, the IBM ThinkPad(R) T23 computer requires the following sequence of statements (three hardware USB host controllers on board): BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS 3. Save the CONFIG.SYS file and reboot. To activate the base USB device drivers (optional): 1. In the CONFIG.SYS file, remove the REM for each of the devices you want to use. The devices in the CONFIG.SYS file are: REM DEVICE=D:\OS2\BOOT\USBCOM.SYS (Serial Port) REM BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD (FDD, LS-120, ZIP drives) REM BASEDEV=USBCDROM.ADD (CDROM) REM DEVICE=D:\OS2\BOOT\USBKBD.SYS (Keyboard) REM DEVICE=D:\OS2\BOOT\USBMOUSE.SYS (Mouse) 2. Save the CONFIG.SYS file and reboot. 8.2 Installing OS/2 using a USB-attached Floppy Diskette Drive and Keyboard --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Detailed information on USB support is provided in the README.TXT file. 8.2.1 Modifying Diskette 1 For systems with one USB controller, add the following sequence of statements to the CONFIG.SYS file on Diskette 1: SET SAVECONNECT=1 SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 BASEDEV=USBD.SYS /I13 BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS DEVICE=\USBKBD.SYS For systems with multiple USB host controllers, the host controller driver must be specified for each hardware controller. For example, the IBM ThinkPad T23 computer requires the following sequence of statements (three hardware USB host controllers on board): SET SAVECONNECT=1 SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 BASEDEV=USBD.SYS /I13 BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS DEVICE=\USBKBD.SYS Add the following USB device drivers to Diskette 1: o USB Driver (USBD.SYS) o USB Universal Host Controller Driver (USBUHCD.SYS) o USB Mass Storage Device Adapter Device Driver (USBMSD.ADD) o USB Human Interface Device driver (USBHID.SYS) Add the following USB device driver to Diskette 2: o USB Keyboard Driver (USBKBD.SYS) The USB device drivers may be found on the OS/2 Device Driver Pak Online Web address: http://service.software.ibm.com/os2ddpak/ The USB drivers may also be copied from the OS/2 CD by the running the following commands in an OS/2 window on an already installed OS/2 system, replacing "x:" with the CD-ROM drive letter: unpack x:\os2image\disk_5\usb /n:USBD.SYS unpack x:\os2image\disk_5\usb /n:USBUHCD.SYS unpack x:\os2image\disk_5\usb /n:USBMSD.ADD unpack x:\os2image\disk_5\usb /n:USBHID.SYS unpack x:\os2image\disk_5\usb /n:USBKBD.SYS The drivers may then be copied from the \os2\boot directory to diskette. If there is not enough space on Diskette 1 or Diskette 2 to contain the additional drivers, follow the instructions in README.TXT to make additional space. 8.2.2 Installing the OS/2 Operating System from Diskettes using the USB Floppy Drive 1. Enable USB boot in the BIOS Setup. 2. Place the Installation Diskette 0 in your USB floppy drive and restart the system. Follow the instructions to add other diskettes when required. 9.0 TCPBEUI UNENCODED NAME LOOKUP ON DOMAIN NAME SERVER _______________________________________________________ As part of the enhancements made for enablement of TCPBEUI on multiple physical adapters, a feature which enables unencoded NetBIOS name lookup on a domain name server (DNS) was added. You enable this feature by using the ENABLEDNS value in TCPBEUI_NIF section of the PROTOCOL.INI file. However, an unencoded DNS lookup is done only if all of the following conditions are satisfied: 1. The NetBIOS name in question contains only DNS valid characters, for example "a" to "z", "A" to "Z" and "-". 2. If the NetBIOS name is less than 16 characters in length, it is either all null (ASCII 0x00) padded or all blank (ASCII 0x20) padded. A combination of nulls and blanks will not work. If the above conditions are not satisfied, an encoded DNS lookup is performed (even if the ENABLEDNS value is set to 2) before querying the NBNS. The documentation concerning unencoded lookup in the file, MPTSCFG.INF, that was shipped with the Software Choice release is incorrect. 10.0 IBM WEB BROWSER FOR OS/2 V1.1 - UPDATED VERSION ____________________________________________________ The IBM Web Browser for OS/2 V1.1 contained in the Convenience Package 2 is based on the Mozilla open source browser and is an English-language version only. 11.0 KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THESEUS3 AND THE CONVENIENCE PACKAGES ______________________________________________________________ You should use Theseus4 with the Convenience Packages rather than Theseus3. Theseus3 traps with Convenience Package versions of the operating system. You can download the updated Theseus4 product from the following Web address: http://ps.boulder.ibm.com/pbin-usa-ps/getobj.pl?/pdocs-usa/fixnews.html#thes4 12.0 EXTRA ICONS AFTER MULTIPLE MIGRATIONS __________________________________________ When you migrate more than once, there will be extra icons in the WarpCenter for System Setup, Command Prompts, Printers, and Connections icons. For example, if you migrate from OS/2 Warp Server for e-business to Convenience Package 1, and then migrate from Convenience Package 1 to Convenience Package 2, you will have two copies of some of the icons in WarpCenter. The right-most drawers on the tool bar are the most-recently added drawers. These may even be hidden on additional trays if there are enough total drawers. In general, the icons added during migration are the same as the previous icons installed by earlier OS/2 versions. The drawers may contain different icons depending on which installation options you selected during installation or migration. The newer drawers may also contain different icons, if you have changed any configurations in previous versions. Look through the duplicate drawers and keep the versions with the largest number of icons or keep the versions with your previous changes (which will be the left-most drawers). You can then delete the duplicate drawers that are not needed. 13.0 USE TIVOLI(R) MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK V3.7 (OR NEWER) _______________________________________________________ If you are using the Tivoli security functions, you must use the Tivoli Management Framework v3.7 (or newer). Older versions of Tivoli Management Framework might encounter a trap with the Convenience Package 2 version of the operating system. 14.0 SYSTEMS WITH IBM ServeRAID ADAPTERS MAY HANG DURING BOOT ____________________________________________________________ Systems with IBM ServeRAID adapters, on which the firmware has been updated to v4.80.26 or later, may hang during boot. Use the driver from the OS/2 DDPak, which you can download from: http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/186d96ebef23e6438625689c007ac1ef/dfa4826c066e6e9d86256b11006e6319?OpenDocument 15.0 UNINSTALLING HPFS386 FILE SYSTEM SUPPORT _____________________________________________ If you have enabled and set DASD limits with the HPFS386 File System, you must backup and disable the DASD limits before uninstalling HPFS386 support. Otherwise, you might not be able to access drives or directories. DASD limits can be disabled using the NET DASD command: net dasd /disable where is the drive or directory that has DASD limits enabled. HPFS386 File System support must be disabled prior to installing the Convenience Package for Warp Server for e-business over an existing version. See Section 2.5 of the README.TXT that comes with the Convenience Package for more information about installing with HPFS386. 16.0 CLOCKSCALE= PARAMETER DOCUMENTED INCORRECTLY _________________________________________________ The CLOCKSCALE= parameter, which is documented in the section "Making Java Programs Faster" in the TECHNOTE.HTM and TECHNOTE.TXT files, is documented incorrectly. The correct specification is CLOCKSCALE=4. 17.0 NOTICES ____________ Due to the extent of common and connected components between IBM OS/2 Warp 4 and IBM OS/2 Warp Server for e-business, information provided with the Convenience Package for IBM OS/2 Warp 4 may contain references to OS/2 Warp Server for e-business, or to components of OS/2 Warp Server for e-business that are not part of OS/2 Warp 4.
