This announces version 1.28 system (flash) firmware
for IBM PowerPC(tm) 7020 model 40P, and the IBM Power Series(tm)
6015 model 440.   A new SMS (System Management Service) version i
1.28 (common to both systems) is also available.
 
Version 1.28 (6Oct95) features:
  - Support for the IBM Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA adapter (this 
    adapter is electronically configurable and has no switches or 
    jumpers)
  - support for the PowerPC 604 Upgrade kit
  - enhanced network boot performance, particularly on Ethernet
    based networks.
  - Looping on the bootlist (retrying).
  - Packet counts appear on screen while network booting.
 
NOTE:
 If you are upgrading from a firmware version older than
 version 1.25, please contact Steaven Sombar (address below)
 for assistance.
 
DISKETTES:
 Each package contains a firmware image diskette and a SMS diskette.   
       6015: Part number 11H7075
       7020: Part number 11H7076
 Contact your IBM support center regarding availability of the above.

ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION:
For Internet users with ftp access, the version 1.28 firmware and SMS
is available via anonymous ftp at ftp.austin.ibm.com.
Userid: anonymous   Password: your-personal-email-address-or-identifier.
Look in the the pub/firmware/7020.and.6015 directory.
 
   A compressed tar package is named 128.tar.Z and resides in the  
   tarfile directory.  A zip package is in the zipfile directory, and
   is named 128.zip

   After expanding the tar or zip file on your system, you will find 
     - The 6015 firmware (flash) image, named P12H0455.IMG
     - The 7020 firmware (flash) image, named P12H0456.IMG
     - A utility to create a SMS diskette (AIX), and a utility
       which creates firmware image and SMS diskettes  
       (DOS, OS/2, or NT)
     - Other files which constitute the SMS. 
   
 
HOW TO MAKE A FIRMWARE UPDATE DISKETTE AND A NEW SMS DISKETTE
FROM THE 128.tar.Z FILE:
* 128.tar.Z is in compressed tar format.   ftp (binary mode)   
* the file to your workstation. 
* Then enter the commands   
*    uncompress 128.tar      
*    tar -xvf 128.tar
* The result should be a directory named resource.  Next doswrite
* the P12H0456.IMG and flash.6xe to a DOS formatted (1.44 Meg)
* diskette.  This your firmware update diskette for model 7020.
* (If your machine is a 6015, then doswrite P12H0455.IMG instead).
* Next, install another DOS formatted diskette in your diskette
* drive and run the ./aixsms40p shell script from the resource
* directory.  This will create a version 1.28 SMS diskette.
* TO UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM FIRMWARE:
* Startup the SMS which came with your system (or the new 1.28 SMS
* you just created) and run the "update system firmware" utility.
 
HOW TO MAKE FIRMWARE UPDATE DISKETTES AND A NEW SMS DISKETTE
FROM THE 128.zip FILE:
* If you are starting with the file
*     128.zip             (Same thing as 128.tar.Z,  but zip format)
*                          Follow the instructions described above but
*                          use unzip instead of  uncompress.
*                          Use FWSMS40P.CMD to create firmware update
*                          and SMS Diskettes if you are using DOS,
*                          OS/2, or NT)

LICENSE AGREEMENT:
 The Program License Agreement and other agreements and restrictions 
 applicable to your original system firmware and System Management 
 System diskette shall also apply to the version 1.28 firmware and SMS.  
 Installing the firmware on your system and/or using the SMS constitutes
 understanding and acceptance of this agreement.
