Quake2 on AIX 4.3 README

Quake2 is ONLY supported on GXT3000P.

Release Notes:

  1. If you use the right CTRL key in quake, you might need to execute this (just once) from the AIX command line: xmodmap -e "keysym Execute = Control_R"
  2. Please use the provided scripts. Trust me on this one.
  3. Q2 on AIX can be used to run a server. Running a dedicated server is best without audio (quake2.gl.noums), and can be run a LFT (if dedicated switch is passed in on the command line)
  4. Stereo quake requires stereo glasses, and some fiddling with the config.cfg file, there is a script file that should append the needed commands to your config.cfg each time you fire up q2 with stereo glasses.
  5. In case you are wondering, Q2 on AIX uses a 24 bit visual, most PC cards run in 15 bit.

Downloading and Installing Quake2

  1. Decide which directory you would like Quake2 to reside in (you do not have to create a new directory named Quake2, the install scripts will do this for you.
  2. Download Quake2 by clicking on the file named "q2-317-demo-aix.zip" and choose to save the file to the directory on your hard drive that you have chosen for Quake2.
  3. "cd" to this directory.
  4. Unzip the downloaded file by typing "unzip q2-317-demo-aix.zip". This will unzip all files scripts, and executables into a quake2 directory.
