The replacement files provide additional enhancements to the original setup files. These replacement files resolve the following problems that can occur when you use version 1.0 of Electronic Forms Designer: - When you are using Server Setup or User Setup to install to a shared Windows environment, the Setup program may generate errors when it is attempting to copy files. - When you are using User Setup to install to a shared Windows environment, the Setup program may copy unnecessary files to the user's private Windows directory. - When you are installing on a Novell(R) network where the Map Root command was used to attach a drive, the Server Setup and User Setup programs may generate errors indicating that various files could not be found. To Replace Your E-Forms Setup Files ----------------------------------- To replace the E-Forms setup files, you will need to copy the files included with this Application Note to Disk 1 of the Electronic Forms Designer. Two of the files included with this Application Note are compressed to match their original format on the disk. After the files have been replaced on the floppy disk, you can run the Server Setup program to reinstall the Electronic Forms Designer. It is not recommended that these files be manually decompressed and copied to existing installations. See page 123 of the Electronic Forms Designer "Developer's Guide" for more information on using the Server Setup and User Setup programs. If you have two floppy disk drives that accept the same size disks (two 3.5-inch drives or two 5.25-inch drives), follow these instructions: 1. Insert the enclosed WA0944 disk in one of your floppy disk drives and then insert the Microsoft Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1 in the other drive. 2. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER copy :\*.* where is the floppy disk drive containing the WA0944 disk and is the drive containing the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1. For example, if the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1 is in drive B and the WA0944 disk is in drive A, type the following command: copy a:\*.* b:\ A message will be displayed stating: 3 file(s) copied. This indicates that the three setup files have been successfully replaced. If you only have a single floppy disk drive or two drives that accept different size disks, you can first copy the setup files to a temporary location (for example, C:\) and then to the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1. Follow these instructions to replace your setup files: 1. Insert the enclosed WA0944 disk in your floppy disk drive. 2. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER copy :\*.* where is the floppy disk drive containing the WA0944 disk and is a temporary location for the E-Forms files. For example, if the WA0944 disk is in drive A, and you want to temporarily copy the files to C:\, type the following command: copy a:\*.* c:\ A message will be displayed stating: 3 file(s) copied. This indicates that the three setup files have been successfully copied to the temporary location. 3. Remove the WA0944 disk from your floppy disk drive and replace it with the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1. 4. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER copy :\setup.exe where is the location of the files copied in step 2 and is the floppy disk drive containing the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1. Using the example above, where the files were copied to C:\ and the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1 is in drive A, you would type the following command: copy c:\setup.exe a:\ A message will be displayed stating: 1 file(s) copied. This indicates that one of the setup files has been successfully copied to the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1. 5. Repeat step 4 for the remaining two files: cmdkinst.ex_ userinst.ex_ 6. Once the files have been successfully copied to the Electronic Forms Designer Disk 1, the files can be deleted from the temporary location. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER del :\setup.exe where is the location of the files copied in step 2. Using the example above, where the files were copied to C:\, the SETUP.EXE file would be deleted with the following command: del c:\setup.exe 7. Repeat step 6 for the remaining two files: cmdkinst.ex_ userinst.ex_ Additional Notes on Installing to Shared Windows Environments ------------------------------------------------------------- Before running Server Setup in a shared Windows environment, the administrator must have read/write access to the Windows SYSTEM subdirectory. (Normally, this is a read-only directory.) Once the files have been installed by Server Setup, the users can install Electronic Forms Designer to their private Windows directories using the User Setup program. In addition, if a new version of a support file is placed in the shared Windows directory, and not in the E-Forms Server Setup directory, the User Setup program will fail due to inconsistent versions. To avoid errors, it is important for the versions of the support files in the E-Forms Server Setup directory (the default is ADDONS\EFORMS) to be the same as those in the shared Windows directory.
