# 5015- Accessing Clipart in CorelDRAW 5 The CorelDRAW 5 CD-ROMs contain more than 22000 clipart images and symbols in both vector and bitmap format, plus templates, sound and animation files. The clipart, templates, symbols and sounds are located on CD-ROM #1, while CD-ROM #2 contains the Autodesk Animator files (*.FLC, *.FLI), as well as a collection of actors, sounds and props stored in CorelMOVE library files (*.MLB). To find a particular clipart file, use the Corel File Finder included on CD-ROM #1, in the CATALOG directory. Double-click FINDER.EXE, and type the name of the file as listed in the manual. The Corel File Finder will provide you with the exact location of the clipart. Note: For easy access to the Corel File Finder, copy the CATALOG directory to your hard drive. In Program Manager, click the CorelDRAW 5 group. Click File, New, New Item. Browse the directory containing FINDER.EXE. Click the file, and press OK. The Corel File Finder icon will be placed in the CorelDRAW 5 group. For more information about Corel File Finder click Help while in the application. Symbols (Pages D1 - D77) CorelDRAW's symbols can be accessed directly from CorelDRAW providing all of the symbols were installed. If you do not have all the symbols available, perform a custom install disabling everything except CorelDRAW, and click Customize. Disable all check boxes except for Symbols, and click Customize. Click Add All, and continue until the install is complete. The next time you open CorelDRAW all of the symbols should be available. To access the installed symbols, click Symbols from the ribbon bar, the Star icon, or click Preferences, Symbols. This will open the RollUp. Select the category of symbols, listed in the clipart manual, and the desired point size. Click and drag the desired symbol onto your page. CorelDRAW's symbols can also be used as bullets in paragraph text boxes, by clicking Text, Paragraph, Bullets. All of the symbols categories are listed as possible bullets to choose from. Note: Most of the symbols stored in the True Type format (*.TTF) and can be installed through the Control Panel, Fonts option. Vector Clipart (Pages C1 - C425) The vector clipart available with CorelDRAW 5 is located on CD-ROM #1 in the CLIPART directory. This directory is subdivided into the categories such as People, Vehicle, Ship, Sports, etc. The clipart files in these directories are stored in a new format called Corel Presentation Exchange (*.CMX). This new format will allow you to import or drag and drop Corel's clipart images in any of the CorelDRAW modules that allow the importing of graphics, such as CorelCHART and Corel VENTURA , without having to export the clipart first from CorelDRAW as another file format. Corel is committed to supporting the CMX format, all of Corel's future applications will use it. To alter any of Corel's clipart use CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT. Once the clipart is open in CorelDRAW, it can then be ungrouped, to allow for editing the image. You can change the color, location and the positioning of the individual components as well as rotate, mirroring, stretching and skewing the image to suit your needs. If opened in Corel PHOTO-PAINT, the clipart becomes a bitmap and can be edited as such. Bitmap Clipart (Pages E1 - E32) The clipart images in the \CLIPART\_BITMAPS directory on CD-ROM #1 are saved in a TIFF (*.TIF) format. These files can be opened in Corel PHOTO-PAINT for full bitmap editing or imported into CorelDRAW where they can be rotated, skewed, resized or used with the new PowerClip and lens effects. Sound Files (Page I1) The sound files that CorelDRAW provides are in a Wave (*.WAV) format which can be imported into both CorelSHOW and CorelMOVE as well as any other programs that have the necessary (*.WAV) filter. These files are located on CD-ROM #1 under the directory \SOUNDS. Animation Files (Pages H1 - H7) CorelDRAW 5 provides Autodesk Animator animation files (*.FLC, *.FLI) for use with CorelSHOW to help create fabulous presentations. You can access these animations, located on CD-ROM #2 in the \SHOW\FLICS directory, through CorelSHOW, or any other program that has a filter for *.FLI and *.FLC files. Note: Video resolution and CPU speed will effect the quality of the animations. CorelMOVE Libraries (Pages F1 - F35) CorelDRAW also includes library files for use with CorelMOVE, the libraries contain sounds, props and actors, stored in a *.MLB format. They are located on CD-ROM #2 and can be accessed through the Library RollUp in CorelMOVE, under the Edit menu. Once an *.MLB file is open in the Library RollUp you can scroll through and play all the individual actors, props and sounds. Once you have selected a file, click Place, to place the actor, prop or sound in your CorelMOVE file. Note: The Old West actors described on pages F-21 and F-22 are located in the GREET1.MLB, GREET2.MLB and GREET3.MLB library files. CorelCHART Samples (Pages G1 - G6) The CorelCHART files (*.CCH) are located on CD-ROM #1 under the \CHART directory. These files can be opened directly into CorelCHART where the user can then edit the example data to fit their needs, allowing these Chart files to be used as templates. CorelDRAW Templates (Pages B1 - B13) The CorelDRAW templates (*.CDT) are located under the \DRAW\TEMPLATE directory on CD-ROM #1. These templates can be used in two ways, first by opening the template in CorelDRAW, then editing it to fit your needs. Second, by using the Styles RollUp in CorelDRAW, load the styles of the chosen template to create your own file. This method will allow you to apply artist text, paragraph and graphic styles, that are used in the template, to your new file. Corel VENTURA Templates (Pages B14 - B32) Corel VENTURA creates a template from the chapter settings, chapter files, graphic and text files of an existing publication. When you create a new publication and specify Base on Template in the New Publication dialog box, the Base on Template dialog box opens, allowing you to select chapter, graphic and text files. The new publication is modeled on the selected files from the previous publication or in this case, the Corel VENTURA templates available on CD-ROM #1.
