# 5012- Removing One-color Backgrounds from Bitmaps Method 1 1. Start Corel PHOTO-PAINT and open the image. 2. Create a mask, using the Magic Wand mask tool. To do this, click on the one-color background of the bitmap image. 3. Click Mask, Invert. 4. With the mask in place, save the file as an *.EPS. 5. Close Corel PHOTO-PAINT. 6. Import the *.EPS file into CorelDRAW using the PostScript Interpreted filter. 7. When the Import Text As dialog box opens, click Text as Curves. The object will be imported into DRAW as a curve with a full color vector fill. This means that if you try to resize, you will get a tiled image. 8. To avoid a tiled image, click the object, and access the Fill RollUp. 9. Click Update From, and click the object. 10 . Click Edit, and click Scale Pattern with Object. 11. Click OK, and Apply. You can now scale the object without tiling. You can even ungroup the image to edit individual objects. Method 2 1. Start Corel PHOTO-PAINT and open the image. 2. Create a mask, using the Magic Wand mask tool. To do this, click on the one-color background of the bitmap image. 3. Click Mask, Save. 4. In the Save File as Type list box, click Corel PHOTO-PAINT Image (*.CPT), and choose a drive and directory to save in. 5. Type a filename, and click OK. 6. Exit Corel PHOTO-PAINT without saving the image. 7. Open CorelTRACE , and open the .CPT file. 8. The mask will appear as a shell in black and white. Click Trace, Outline. 9. Click File, Save, Trace As. 10. Save the file as an *.EPS. 11. Close CorelTRACE. 12. Open CorelDRAW, and click import the EPS image. Ensure CorelTRACE (*EPS) is selected in the List Files of Type list box. 13. Click the object with the Pick tool, and click the Fill Tool. 14. Assign no fill, by clicking the X from the Fill tool flyout. 15. Click File, Import and import the original bitmap into CorelDRAW. 16. Click the bitmap with the Pick tool, and click Effects, Powerclip, Place Inside Container. 17. The cursor changes to a thick black arrow. Click the outline with the point of the arrow. 18. Click the Outline tool, and click the X from the flyout. This assigns no outline. The bitmap will now have a transparent background.
