IMSI Mouse - 250 Dots Per Inch Resolution Copyright 1989 David Batterson International Microcomputer Software, Inc. (IMSI) is a distributor for various brands of mice, along with its graphics software. Now it has developed its own product, aptly called the IMSI Mouse. IMSI Mouse is an improvement over my Logitech C7 Mouse. It features 250 dots per inch (dpi) resolution; no mouse pad is required. The mouse has a pleasant rounded design, so it fits your hand well; the two light-touch buttons are at the extreme end. The mouse is Microsoft compatible, naturally, so supports all popular software applications, such as PC Paintbrush, Dr. HALO, TurboCAD, PC Paint Plus, GEM, PFS: First Publisher, Ventura Publisher, Microsoft WORD, Aldus PageMaker, and Microsoft Windows. The mouse driver program (MOUSE.COM) offers four command options, using the following switches: /H - sets horizontal sensitivity /V - " vertical " /S - " both /D - " the speed threshold at which the tracking rate doubles The default cursor tracking sensitivity is 50. If you wanted it much faster, you could use the command: MOUSE /S 100. To slow down the mouse, for more accurate cursor placement, try a setting such as this: MOUSE /S 20. You can reissue mouse commands any time you want. If you need to remove MOUSE.COM from memory, just type: MOUSE /OFF. IMSI Mouse comes with pop-up menu software, custom made for Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect 4.0-4.2, MS-DOS, dBASE III+, and Norton Utilities. You can also create custom menus for software which doesn't normally support a mouse. Unlike Logitech, the documentation for menus is not included in the printed user manual, but is instead in a text file on disk. This is a bit of an annoyance, as you have to print the file (MENUKEY.DOC) for easy reference. I didn't try writing a custom menu, although I have done so with the Logitech Mouse and it wasn't difficult. So don't feel intimidated doing so. The IMSI mouse comes with a 9-25 pin adapter, a long cord, and a "lifetime warranty" (when's the last time you got one of those with a product?). It is available in either a serial or bus version, for a suggested list of $99.95 and $109.95, respectively.
