It - supports 14 printer models - supports four resolutions - dithers and mixes colors You install the Toshiba driver as a printer. To learn how to install a printer, see the section "Adding a New Printer" in the chapter "Using the Control Panel" in the Installation Guide. The file TOSH24.FIF is not installed at the same time as the driver. If you use downloadable or card fonts, you must copy this file to the directory where you installed Windows. The following sections describe the driver dialog box. To display the dialog box, choose the Change Printer command in your Micrografx program. You can also view the dialog box in the Control Panel. Choose the Printer command in the Setup menu, then choose the Toshiba printer. Note: To ensure the highest quality output, turn on the "3 Pass Graph" option, available on certain models. For more information, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. USING THE MENUS The Toshiba printer driver has five menus. This menu lets you ----------- ----------------------------------------------- Model choose a printer Paper select paper size Quality choose a resolution Fonts choose fonts Foreground choose a foreground color Model Menu When you select a model, the driver sets the options to the default settings for that printer model. A check mark appears next to the latest choice made in the Model menu, and the printer name appears in the title bar. Paper Menu The Paper menu lets you conveniently select paper size, and lets you switch between English and metric units. The Toshiba printer driver supports nine standard paper sizes and two standard envelope sizes: - Letter (8.5 x 11 in.) - Legal (8.5 x 14 in.) - Ledger (11 x 17 in.) - Statement (5.5 x 8.5 in.) - A5 (148 x 210 mm) - A4 (210 x 297 mm) - A3 (297 x 420 mm) - B5 (182 x 257 mm) - B4 (257 x 364 mm) - Envelope (3.5 x 6.5 in.) - Envelope (4.0 x 9.5 in.) The paper sizes available depend on the selected device. The Page area reflects the selected paper size adjusted for the maximum page width for the selected device. Quality Menu The Quality menu lists the resolution options (in dots per inch) that the Toshiba printer driver supports. They include: - 180(V) x 180(H) dpi - 180(V) x 360(H) dpi - 360(V) x 180(H) dpi - 360(V) x 360(H) dpi The resolutions available depend on the selected model. Fonts Menu The Fonts menu lets you choose - Resident fonts - Card fonts - Downloadable fonts - Cartridge fonts The font options available depend on the selected model. When you choose one of the fonts commands, a dialog box opens. The Resident Fonts dialog box displays the fonts available on the selected device. You can leave the highlighted fonts selected, or you can choose an individual font. Then choose Ok to implement your choice, or Cancel to return to the main dialog box. The Card Fonts dialog box displays one or two card positions (depending on the printer model) and the available card fonts. If two card positions are shown, choose a card slot (either A or B), then choose a font. Choose Ok to implement your choice, or Cancel to return to the main dialog box. The Toshiba printer driver supports these card fonts: - APL I - Light Italic - Bold Face II - OCR-B - Bold Italic - Orator 1 - Elite Italic - Orator 2 - Gothic 15 - Outline - Greek/Math I - Scientific-Pi I - Greek/Math II - Theme - Letter Gothic II - Toshiba Script Note: For more information about card fonts, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. The Downloadable Fonts dialog box displays one or two font positions, and the available fonts. Depending on the printer model, you can select one or two downloadable fonts. Choose the drive and directory where the downloadable fonts are installed. If two font positions are shown, choose a font position (1 or 2) then choose the font to download. If you want to save the current path as the default, choose the Save option. Then choose Ok. Downloadable fonts are copied to the printer when needed. After the fonts are downloaded, the Download check box is "unchecked" so the fonts are not repeatedly downloaded for each document printed. If the printer is turned off, recheck the Download check box to reload the selected downloadable fonts. If text in a document uses a downloadable font that is not selected in the Downloadable Fonts dialog box, the font is automatically downloaded when the document is printed, provided a font position is vacant. If a downloadable font position is not available, the text is printed using the closest available resident font. For more information about downloadable fonts, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. The Toshiba printer driver supports these downloadable fonts: - APL 1 (APL1.DL0) - Bold Italic (BITALIC1.DL0) - Elite Italic (EITALIC1.DL0) - Gothic 15 (GTHIC151.DL0) - Greek/Math I (GREEKMH1.DL0) - Greek/Math II (GREEKMH2.DL0) - Italic-1 (ITALIC1.DL0) - Italic-2 (ITALIC2.DL0) - Letter Gothic II (LGOTHIC2.DL0) - Light Italic (LITALIC.DL0) - OCR-B (OCRB.DL0) - Orator-1 (ORATOR1.DL0) - Orator-2 (ORATOR2.DL0) - Outline (OUTLINE1.DL0) - Scientific Pi-I (SIENTIF1.DL0) - Theme (THEME.DL0) - Torigin-2 (TORIGIN2.DL0) - Toshiba Script (SCRIPT.DL0) These fonts are available from Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. See the Toshiba User's Manual for more information about downloadable fonts. Note: For models with configurable RAM, these are the configuration settings: RAM ALOC=DLL and Buffer Size=2K (4K for P351SX). For more information, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. The Cartridge Fonts dialog box displays the fonts for models supporting cartridge fonts. You must select the name of the cartridge currently in the printer. You then choose Ok to implement your choice, or Cancel to return to the main dialog box. The Toshiba printer driver supports these cartridge fonts: - Bold Face II and Letter Gothic II - Elite Italic and Gothic 15 - Greek/Math I and APL I - Greek/Math II and Scientific-Pi I - OCR-B and Bold Italic - Orator-1 and Orator-2 - Outline and Toshiba Script - Theme and Light Italic The Enable Raster Fonts command in the Fonts menu lets you turn on and off (toggle) raster font support. You can disable raster fonts to gain more memory for running Windows. Note: We recommend disabling raster fonts when printing in high-resolution landscape mode. Note: Raster Fonts are not supported in EXCEL. If a Raster Font is selected, Excel will substitute it with the System font. This is a problem with Excel due to the internal aspect ratio filtering. Microsoft Corporation is aware of this. You can select either the USA or IBM 2 character set in the Fonts menu (if your model supports it). Selecting the IBM 2 character set lets you access more European characters than are available in the standard USA character set. See the Toshiba User's Manual for a listing of the IBM 2 character set. The following printers provide a configuration setting to select character set for country: - P351SX - P321SLC - P321SL - P341SL - ExpressWriter 301 - ExpressWriter 311 Note: Make sure the printer's configuration setting for character set matches the selection in the Fonts menu. See the Toshiba printer manual for more information about country settings. Foreground Menu The Foreground menu lists the available printer ribbon colors: - Black - Cyan - Magenta - Yellow - Red - Green - Blue The Foreground menu is available only when you choose a monochrome print type with models that support color. Note: Non-white colors print as black (or a shade of gray) in monochrome mode or on black and white printers. CHOOSING OPTIONS The main dialog box contains the following options for printing: - Page - Paper Source - Print - Dark Page You can choose portrait or landscape orientation. In portrait mode, the page is printed with the same orientation as the image displayed on the screen. In landscape mode, the page is printed with the image rotated 90 degrees clockwise. The Toshiba printer driver supports page widths from 1 inch to 13.5 inches for wide carriages, and page widths from 1 inch to 8 inches for narrow carriages. It also supports page heights from 1 to 88 inches. Use the scroll arrows in the Page option box, or type a new number in the text box, to change the page width or height. Page width is restricted to 10 inches in color mode at a resolution of 360(V) x 360(H) dpi. You can change to Metric units by choosing one of the five Metric sizes in the Paper menu. If you use a sheet feeder, adjust the page length to allow for a one-inch top margin and 1/2-inch bottom margin. The exact page length setting to use depends on the length of paper and the size of the margins set in the application. Note: Make sure the "lines per inch" and "lines per page" on the printer match the length of paper. The Auto Form Feed option sends a form feed command to the printer after each page. Paper Source The Paper Source list box displays the available methods for loading paper. The available paper sources depend on the selected device. Use the scroll arrows to display the available paper sources. Highlight the source you want to use. Print The print modes are - Color - Monochrome The print modes available depend on the selected model. The monochrome option lets you choose the printer ribbon color if the model chosen supports color output. The color option lets you print text and graphics as displayed on a color monitor. Note: If a model does not support color printing, the color option is disabled. Dark The Dark option allows you to select the density of solid fills. When you choose the Dark option, solid fills print darker than normal. Note: The effect of the Dark option depends on the selected resolution. For example, if your resolution is 360 X 360 dots per inch (dpi), and the Dark option is not selected, the Toshiba driver will print solid filled areas at 180 X 180 dpi. After you choose all the options you want, you can Choose To --------- ------------------------------------------- Ok implement your choices and close the dialog box Reset cancel your choices and revert to the values last saved or the default values Cancel close the dialog box without implementing any options Save save your options as the new defaults END OF READMETS.TXT
