I N T R O D U C I N G NewCon National " HUB " Service The HUB is a outdial service which works much like an airport where calls instead of planes are routed to other cites across the nation. Weather your calling from Malibu California or Catonsville Maryland makes no difference to the system. In the file Phones.txt I have listed all the citys which have a local access number to the PDN we use. So connecting to BBS systems in other cites is as easy as dialing direct and you save big $$$ in the process. Our rates for the HUB and other service offered by NewCon our located in the NewCon.txt file. OVERVIEW: The HUB uses TYMNETS asynchrous outdail ports which enables you to economically transfer information to remote asynchrous computer equipment, such as BBS systems, Host and personal computers and printers. The HUB enables you to dial a local telephone number to communicate with a BBS or other asynchrous equipment without using direct long-distance dialing or a watts line. WHO SHOULD USE THE HUB SERVICE: Anybody who wants to save money on there long-distance phone bill. You should only use the HUB service when you want to make a call which is long - distance from your local area and where our service is lower then a direct dial call from your local area. We sometimes can help in giving you rates depending on who your long - distance company is. One way to find this out is to call your L/D company and ask them what the cost per hour would be from your phone exchange to the city you want to call. Here is a example of a user who should use the HUB service and one who should not use the service. In the Baltimore area calling to Washington D.C. is a long distance call for many users. DC BTW is only an hours drive from Baltimore. This caller should use the HUB service. Now outside of Baltimore there are many cites where DC is local to the user well in this case the caller should dial direct and not use the HUB service. When you log in and enter the commands, you will see a long line of VIP information, this information contains the below data. HOST NUMBER AREA CODE PREFIX CITY, STATE ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ | | | | | TYMNET ASYNCHRONOUS OUTDIAL 5467 (301) 687 Balti, MD <-- You will always see --> <-- THIS DATA WILL CHANGE --> the above words DEPENDING ON WHERE YOUR CALLING to The Area code, prefix, city and state data is very usefull data because it tells you if the outdail port is long distance from the local prefix number. Now there is no way for us to know which prefix is local because there are so many that theres just know way for us to keep up with it. But at your request We will call the local opr in that area and find out which are or are not local to your prefix if you request us to do so. Rem that if the outdial prefix is Long-Distance or that there is a Call charge which is added from the Bell company. We will pass this charge along to you for whatever we are charged. So call the OPR and find out or call us to do it for you. If you do not find out using the HUB may cost you more then you expected to be charged. This service was put together to save you money not cost you more !!!! HOW THE HUB SERVICE WORKS: First you need to make a connection thru a local call or by using the 1-800-Number to the PDN Network. See the below chart on what to do and what you will see once you have connected to the PDN. STEP 1 - Select the Local Access number for your Area Example: In the Boston Area dial in at settings 7E1 you can change later to 8N1 Dial 439-3400 for 300 - 1200 baud service 439-3531 for 2400 baud service 330-5110 for 9600 baud service/mnp Note: You can always receive a updated list of local access numbers by dialing 1-800-242-5322 For NewCon Customer service or 1-800-336-0149 which is Tymnets Customer service number and we will send you a catalog of numbers. Using the 1-800-PDN number for outdial service can cost you more then a direct call so before you use that call us at 1-800-242-5322 ask for 800 charges. STEP 2 - Once connected you will see --> CONNECT 300,1200,2400 or 9600 on your screen depending on which baud rate you used. Here is an example screen of what you see, the below screen is the actual logon to Tymnet and I had requested Information calling in at 2400 7E1 baud. You too can try this right now just call your locall access number. Make call using local access number for your area using settings 7E1 CONNECT 2400 <-- what you wil see on screen <-- enter a carrage return ( press enter ) please type your terminal identifier <-- what you will see on screen A <-- enter this in CAPS -5553:01-004- <-- what you will see on screen (numbers may change) please log in:INFORMATION <-- I typed in Information and connected to the below TYMNET INFORMATION SERVICE Welcome to TYMNET's Information Service! TYMNET is the world's largest Public Data Network, with local access in over 750 U.S. and Canadian cities and access to and from over 70 foreign countries. STEP 3 - Now when you call the HUB you will do the same thing except where I typed in INFORMATION you will type in username;password which we will supply to you. The below is what you see when you call a bbs or host direct with out going thru THE HUB Main Menu. Note: You would use this method when a BBS number you want to call is not listed on our menu. === Start Example Make call using local access number for your area using settings 7E1 CONNECT 2400 <-- what you wil see on screen <-- enter a carrage return ( press enter ) please type your terminal identifier <-- what you will see on screen A <-- enter this in CAPS -5553:01-004- <-- code you will see on screen (numbers may change) please log in: <-- TYPE BELOW HERE USERNAME:6578;PASSWORD <-- what you type in ^ ^ ^ ^ = ENTER OR RETURN KEY | | | | This data supplied | by the HUB to you Once you have an account. | |--> Outdial interface(port) number you slect varies depending on the location of the remote computer you are calling. Always select an Outdial interface(port) closest to the remote computer. I.E. the Outdial interface(port) for Baltimore is 4600 and New Orleans is 3654 etc... So if you were calling from New Orleans to a BBS in Baltimore then you would type in USERNAME:4600;PASSWORD You are logged into the PDN and connected to outdial city when the system responds with the following example of an Outdial Banner and a right angle bracket prompt: TYMNET ASYNCHRONOUS OUTDIAL 4600 (301) 687 BALTIMORE, MD ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ | | | | | | | | | You will always see this This will change from city to city > STEP 4 Set commands are used to change the default values and setings and our always inputed by you before you enter the dial command and number you are calling. > set x < We will send you all the info needed to use set commands in The HUB Kit after you join THE HUB. > D 687-9417 <-- what you type in (687-9417 IS OUR BBS NUMBER) ^ ^ | | | |--> BBS number or other host you wish to connect to. | |-- D is for dial a D P whould be for pulse phones ( the old type ) The HUB responds to vaild input by displaying two completion messages. The Dialing message --> Dialing ....... <-- which indicates that the HUB is currently dialing the requested telephone number. The message includes a series of dots, with a new dot appearing every three seconds until the connection is completed. The HUB then responds to a successful connection with connect and the baud rate STEP 5 AS the number is dialing you should at this time switch to 8N1 for file transfers before you make a connection... Don't worry you will have time to change from 7E1 to 8N1 . If you recive a response other than these complection messages open your users kit and refer to tables 9 and 10 of appendex C, HUB Outdial Messages and Codes STEP 6 To complete the session exit from the remote and then drop the DTR/ hang up. ======== END Example THE HUB MAIN MENU The main menu is very easy to use. 1 You dial in just like you did in the above step 1 2 When you see the please log in: NEWCON;PASSWORD ^ ^ ^ ^ ^^ | | | | || |-> you type in the code we assign you 3 At this point you will see our main menu appear..! 4 From there you select what you want to do get information about Our services, call one of the bbs which are listed, or call our BBS which we think is second to none..! GRIN :-) 5 If the BBS number you are calling is BUSY then you will return back to our Menu and you can select another choice...! 6 To end the session just hang up...! For more information call 1-800-242-5322 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Mon thru Sun. or 301-391-5322 if your local to Baltimore. Thanks
