I am running Grab-Bag III by ALDE and they said it was okay to use it on a BBS. Basically it is straight out of the "box" on my system. The MENU.TXT was modified to sequential file directory numbers after 019 for use as DIR on PCBoard. Some of the *.CATs had to be copied and modified (23-32) to get them to work as File Directories on PCBoard, These have an extra lond record in the last record (I used EDLIN to rewrite the last record). You will have to do the same on some of the other files discussed below. Files 1, 4-14, 16, 22 and 29 have something screwy in the first record which causes them to double-space on PCBoard. Again, I copied them to the Hard Disk and put a CR in column 78. You might want to copy all *.CATs to your Hard Disk as this appears to speed up file searches quite a bit. Ran into a big problem along about 8/7/89, was getting a lot of files "NOT FOUND" with PCBoard especially the first file in the first CAT (and others) were not found for Down-Loading. I could copy and work with the files just fine with DOS but PCBoard just wouldn't find them with or without a Hard Disk DIR (even using PCBFILER which found them okay for the DIR but still gave "NOT FOUND" for DIR. Finally, got the attention of CDC and they checked things out on my system and determined that they had a bug in PCBoard. I understand from them it was related to the "00" year in the files on Grab-Bag. They got the problem fixed on 8/11/89 in v14.2 Beta with a date of 8/11/89 or greater. By the way 14.2 looks pretty good to me at this time. Apparently this was not a problem with RBBS. Chicago RBBS-PC (312) 352-1035 (SYSOP Loren Jones) is the original author of Grab-Bag and I hope he will put valid dates on the next pressing of Grab-Bag. Loren also has something called "RBBS in a Box" which I don't understand yet but some people are raving about it. Thanks Loren for what you have done. That's all folks!
