EXTCASE.TXT Sparta PCBoard Hard Drive Conference PERSTOR Conference (201) 729-7056 From the same folks who designed the Perstor PS200 Series HD controllers, an external case that will free up some space in that over crowded PC, XT, AT machine. I am awaiting technical specification sheets from Perstor in order to offer full details on the case. In the meantime, I am preparing this preliminary text to at least give you a few details on it. Dimensions: 14 inches wide 5 3/4 high (including feet) 15 1/2 inches deep Weight: Weight of Case - 6 pounds Shipping Weight - 7 1/2 pounds Power Supply Specifications: Wattage: ?? Voltage: 90-240 Volts Ripple: +- 0.1 volts (smooth and clean) Surge: ?? The Power Supply is clean and can handle any two FH drives you might throw at it. Designed to Mil Spec contract held by Systems and Software, Inc., former name of Perstor Systems, Inc. It can be used on any input voltage source you might have available. Take it to Europe, Far East, or whereever. Other Specifications: Equipped with two universal mounting brackets that will allow the positioning of the drives in several locations. The mounting brackets will accommodate full height or half height mounting arrangements, recessed or up-front front bezel arrangement. In a word, they are well designed. Quiet running internal fan that will keep the hottest running drive around quite cool. Rear case mounted connectors with cable extensions that will hook up to the drives as follows: 1 - 34 pin control cable with bridged connectors for 2 drives 2 - 20 pin data cables for drive 1 and drive 2 There are also two ground straps with connectors for ground isolation of up to two drives. The on-off switch is rear mounted, lighted, and fuse protected. Cable Set: The case comes with a 40 inch cable set consisting of: 1 - 34 pin control cable 2 - 20 pin data cables These cables mate to the rear mounted case connectors and have corresponding designations for J1, J2, and J3 that are labeled on each cable. This should allow for quick and easy connect/disconnect if you need to move the computer or external case. In addition, the Perstor controller can be modified with a new mounting bracket that actually consists of a specially designed half width bracket with a 2 1/2 inch high strain relief associated bracket to secure the routing of the cables through the same mounting slot area that the controller is mounted in. Once the cables have been routed throught the bracket area, the strain relief can then be tightened over the cables to secure them and prevent any unnecessary strain on the cable if either the CPU or external case is moved without first detaching the cable set. Extra cable sets are available if you wish to move the externally mounted hard drives between two machines without removing the case, removing the cables, disconnecting the controller, etc. Color scheme: Color scheme for the case matches the exact same color pattern as the IBM PC/AT. Shielding: RFI emission is minimized by case design, close coupled cover plate and extensive mounting screw through connections. Pricing: External case equipped w/ $295.00 2 Universal Mounting Brackets 1 Quiet Fan 1 40 inch cable set Extra Cable Sets $ 40.00 Shipping: Shipping weight approximately 7 1/2 pounds. UPS Ground recommended. Product Usage: This case is an ideal product for those wishing to add full height drives external to their PC, XT, AT. Another prime use could be to add that second Perstor controller (driver available through Sparta PCBoard) and have two more hard drives available to hold all those file, SIG libraries, etc. If you wish to obtain more information on this product, please leave info on the Sparta BBS, or call Richard Driggers at (201) 729-9409 any evening 7-10PM Eastern time.
