Sym-Talk 2.4 A Communications Package For Symphony By Bill Todd Sym-Talk is a Symphony worksheet designed to make using Symphony's communications features quick and easy. Because many people have used and are familiar with PC-Talk I have followed the PC-Talk command structure as much as possible. All of the features are accessible through the menu structure. In addition, most may also be invoked directly through Alt-key combinations. The main menu appears automatically when the worksheet file is loaded. It can be recalled at any time by typeing Alt-M. The menu structure and functions are described briefly below. Main Menu Function Alt-Key Description -------- ------- ------------------------------------- Dial D Displays a menu of all of the communications configuration (.CCF) files. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor on the desired file name, then strike the enter key. The configuration file will be loaded and the number will be dialed. If a login sequence was specified in the communications setting sheet it will be executed when the connection is established. If a connection is not established you will be asked if automatic redialing should begin. If you answer Y or YES (either upper, lower, or mixed case) the number will be continuously redialed until a connection is established. When a connection is established, the login sequence will be performed and the system will beep continuously until a key is pressed. You may stop the automatic redialing at anytime by striking Ctrl Break or any key. Ctrl Break will terminate the dialing sequence immediately and return you to the main menu. Any other key will return you to the main menu if the current call is not successful. You can begin continuous redialing of the number in the current communications settings sheet at any time by striking Ctrl-Q. Receive R Download a file to disk using the xmodem protocol. Transmit T Transmit a file from disk using the xmodem protocol. A menu of all files in the current directory is displayed. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor on the desired file name, then strike the enter key to begin transmission. Capture C Invokes the capture control menu. The capture control menu allows you to start or stop capture of the communications session in the worksheet, and erase or view the capture range. The capture control menu is described below. Note that data capture is ON initially. Line-control L Invokes the line control menu. This menu allows you to switch between voice and data mode, hangup the phone, enter or leave auto answer mode, and turn the modem speaker on or off. The line control menu is described below. Space S Displays the amount of free space on the current drive. Strike any key to clear the display. File-services Invokes the file services menu. From this menu you can delete a file, list all files in the current directory, or change the current disk and/or directory. The data capture range is automatically erased each time the worksheet is loaded. View V Allows you to view the data capture range in a sheet window.
