VIDEO.COM Monitor control for the PC When I first got my color monitor I was disappointed that DOS didn't support color; later as my eyes started to go I was able to develop COLOR which allowed me to set colors in DOS and BASIC. Since variety is the spice of life all color combinations are available. When I later got a monochrome monitor and card I was disappointed to find that the simple switch type programs were almost as big as COLOR and we never around when I needed them so support for both monitors was added. Installation is simple. Just run VIDEO one time when you boot your PC and it will stay resident. Immediately upon executing it will switch to the color monitor (if both monitor cards are present) and come up with a default color of white letters on a blue background. You can then use the following Alt key combinations to use VIDEO: Alt-1 Cycle thru foreground colors Alt-2 Cycle thru background colors Alt-3 Toggle 80/40 column mode Alt-4 Toggle between monitors I chose these key combinations as they weren't duplicated in any applications that I use. I hope they work for you. Depending on the applications VIDEO colors will go away during the application and will return when you exit to DOS. The Alt keys are always active, so they can be used during an application to invoke VIDEO functions, but you might have unpredictable results. The color set and monitor switch will work fine BASIC. Try other applications and see how it works, but be prepared for some hangups and other unpredictable results. I've tried to test this program as completely as possible on my configuration of a PC, a Persyst Bob card with Taxan 440 monitor and a IBM Monochome card with Amdek 310A monitor. If you experience any problems using VIDEO on your configuration or run into any problems feel free to drop me a line and I'll scratch my head a bit.
