All Machines Read GIF! GIF is a universal viewing format developed by the people at Compuserve Information Service. Originally designed to be used for on-line viewing of graphics, GIF is rapidly becoming a standard graphics format for all types of personal computer systems. With GIF, most any personal computer system can view color and B&W graphics made on a many different types of micro computer systems. GIF's resolution capabilities are more than adequate for cur- rent and future micro PCs. GIF can define graphics files of over 16,000 x 16,000 dots whereas the average micro now in use uses a screen resolution of 320 x 200 dots. GIF's color capabilities are just as good as its resolution capabilities. GIF allows for 256 colors per image, chosen from a palette of 16 million possible colors. GIF viewing and conversion programs are available for a wide variety of micro computer systems. The majority of these programs were developed for Compuserve and are in the Public Domain.
