Here are some notes about the releases of Zmodem dated 12/14/88 and 12/16/88. They are made by the Sysop of The Mainframe BBS, Bob Zimmerman. Currently, I use DSZ on the BBS as well as with Procomm Plus for all Zmodem download and upload processing. I also use DSZ for Ymodem Batch upload and downloads. When I noticed a new version of DSZ, I immediatley downloaded. The first new enhancement mentioned in the .DOC file (and the real feature of the 12/14 release, was the support of compression during transfer. This would be great and improve upload and download processing. I tried using it to upload a file and was told that the feature -Z was not supported or invalid. (no mention of whether it is only supported in a registered version or not). The doc file was also scrimpy in the documentation of this feature. Fearing that this was a virus or trojan horse version, I logged onto the ZModem support BBS and downloaded the current version dated 12/16. This release documented, that the code for -Z was inadverntently not placed/ or disabled from the previous 12/14 release. The feature is now in the DSZ1216.ARC but I have found the following problems/features preventing me from migrating to this version. I am still using the latest version prior to the 12/14 release... The problems: When using a download directory, I am now informed that this feature is only available on registered copies ( I am still waiting on my copy)... It seems as the default is now the -k for transmitting, I am not getting the equalization feature where it adjusts to the amount of errors so that a clean transfer is done even with alot of line noise. There may be other problems, but these are the ones preventing me from using the current release. Probably once a week, I will be checking the Zmodem BBS to see if there are any other enhancements or problems the community should know about...
