So, if I understand you correctly, the issue is more of organisation
than content. Of course, it could be added that (as a rule, although you
can change this) cvsup lives in /usr/local/bin, and that (again, by
default, but not surely in your case) /usr/local/bin is not in your
PATH, but other than that, I think that the sections you list above are
already tere. Maybe, they re not written in step-by-step style, but
rather as continous text. Maybe, an article (in how-to style) could help
with this.
Although I have a few reservations. Cvsup is not to be used
by absolute beginners, IMO. I do realise that there is no good way to
update your ports collection without it, but absolute beginners,
(because I do consider someone who does not know about PATH and how to
set it, an absolute beginner, even DOS and Win9x have it and you had to
routinely set it in autoexec.bat) should probably use the packages and
sysinstall. Not to mention the fact that, at present, there is no good
way to use the packages or the ports eg across release upgrades unless you
already know your way around. (and also, I'll go on record saying that Linux is
no better unless you do the equivalent of a full binary reinstall)
I am passing your message and my thoughts along to the list so that
other people can see it and add what they've got.

We can't do (3). That will break local installations of the
documentation that have been installed in a 'non-standard' place.
I don't really like (1).
I wonder whether, instead of symlinking FAQ/ and handbook/, we could
just install index.html files that have the necessary META headers to
redirect the user to ../doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/... as necessary?
That should do the right thing, and it should work irrespective of the
web server configuration.

Hello everybody,
I noticed today that, even after doing a completely clean new checkout
of the doc and website sources from CVS, the build of the website (or of
any other doc) does highly redundant make(1) loops. It appears that
directories get processed several times, both in the "make all" and the
"make install" phase. The loops are not infinite, after about 2-3-4
iterations (where only one would have been necessary) it completes but
this way it takes a lot of time to finish and also, at least the prstats
part gest done again and again each time, which is annoying.
I suspect that the chages around the /usr/share/mk department are to
blame for this (some file gets included several times, maybe bsd.obj.mk?)
Has anyone noticed this?

Actually, `eopnotsupp' is the name of a function that can be used instead
of a `real' function in a file system's vnodeop table; all it does is (of
course) return EOPNOTSUPP. So in this case the man page is correct.

/etc/sendmail.cf which AFAICT has moved to /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

The translators should pick up from here for the rest of the docs.

thing to me.

Yep. I started trying to write a complete :C entry after merging
stuff from :S last night. Now I have :C done, and all that remains is
to rewrite the :S part to avoid repeating stuff.

Current FreeBSD problem reports
The following is a listing of current problems submitted by FreeBSD users.
These represent problem reports covering all versions including
experimental development code and obsolete releases.
Bugs can be in one of several states:
o - open
A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed.
a - analyzed
The problem is understood and a solution is being sought.
f - feedback
Further work requires additional information from the
originator or the community - possibly confirmation of
the effectiveness of a proposed solution.
p - patched
A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or
confirmation from originator) are still open.
s - suspended
The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information
or resources. This is a prime candidate
for somebody who is looking for a project to do.
If the problem cannot be solved at all,
it will be closed, rather than suspended.
c - closed
A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated,
documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned.
